How long before you see form improve?

Suppose you have a good base of fitness, and you have your weekly training routine down packed... etc..

How long after a BT workout / or hard block of training days do you notice your form improve?

Is it something like a few days, a few weeks, or after / during the recovery week that you feel your form spike up to max?

just wondering.

What's a BT workout?

It depends on each person as well as the system you are targeting, but I've heard 3 weeks thrown around a lot.

When I add additional workload stress or focus on one particular area(climbing-hill repeats, vo2 max - 3 to 5 min intervals, sprinting) It normally takes 2 weeks before I notice anything different on either group rides or Tuesday nighters. I either find myself not as taxed after a climb I've done many times before, not getting shelled or able to keep up where before I would be in a "spot of bother" or being competitive in the city limit sign sprints.

That said, people, especially you youngin's, adapt differently. Hope this helps some.

When I start a new phase of training, I generally see associated measurable improvements in ~3 weeks.

2-3 weeks power starts increasing rapidly. 4-5 weeks repeatability starts coming along as well.

BT = Breakthrough.

It is a Friel term.

Does that work for you? Is that inspiring? Does that motivate you even more to prove me wrong?

I push myself to near puke levels twice a week..... Cant go any harder than that... Am I doing it wrong? Often wondered if I have been attacking this sport too hard and that being the cause of my issues. *really*

Don't you post on FGF?

Follow your plan for a few months and see how long it takes you.

for the first 2 months seems like little improvement, then after about 1500 miles of riding which is about 8 weeks...I start see big improvment, it is important not to overdo and get burned out or injured

I have had conversations with a couple of local racers that I really respect, lately They both mentioned not over doing our local Tues World Championships so they can recover to do the Wed. and Thurs. workouts.

I dunno, sounds reasonable to me.

Yes I do, the one and only =)

You are right about following my plan, I won't be changing it.

I just wanted some answers.

In Friel's terms a breakthrough workout is a workout that targets a specific adaptation. So if you expect your next event to have lots of 3 minute hills, you do 3 minute intervals. He marks them as "BT" so you know which workouts are key and which ones are recovery or skill or "less important" than the others. Se la vie.

Not fast enough?

I've seen good gains in my anaerobic department after 2-3 weeks of concentrated training, FTP is hazy because it's difficult to measure precisely and I'm only now getting into 2x20's.

I guess I don't understand the question. If my form isn't better for a given workout the next time I hop on the bike then I either do Z2 or pack it up and go home. When you guys say three weeks is that referring to the big gains made during a rest week?
