Creed leaves Rock Racing

How do you fire a guy in April? I guess he's not having luck finding a sponsor so he's just jettisoning weight now. He's only funding the team half the year anyway.

https://www.velonews.com/article/9083...-let-go-by-the

Rock Racing has fired domestic all-rounder Michael Creed, citing poor performance so far this season, and further reducing its roster following Friday's announcement of Tyler Hamilton's retirement.

VeloNews has been unable to confirm that two other Rock riders were dismissed this week, as well.

Rock Racing spokesmen did not immediately return phone calls and emails seeking confirmation on Saturday.

Creed said he was not overly surprised to be let go. He has raced just once this season, at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, where he finished 67th on the GC. He said he was disappointed to learn of his firing first from a teammate. He said he later received an email from the team confirming that he had been fired.

"I was always the guy defending the team, to my friends and other racers, so it's hard when you've been the one sticking up for the team, to be the one that gets flicked," he told VeloNews on Saturday.

“I don't want to put myself out as some kind of doe-eyed innocent ... I can't pretend I didn't see how they treated other riders they let go last year,” he said. “I'm trying not to feel too sorry for myself, because you are only as good as the people you go into business with.”

Creed said he was not certain what he would do next. He has an offer to race the Joe Martin Stage Race with another team, but is also considering options outside of professional bike racing.

“I'm going to hang out at home, and see if I can get psyched to race again. Right now I have no interest in going out training in the cold,” he said from his home in Colorado Springs.

I'm pissed to hear this. When Tyler retired I thought "Well, it looks like Mike Creed will get a permanent spot on the pro squad now" and now he gets fired. I wish him luck, not only because I'm a fan, but because nobody should go out like this.
What pro team is he going to race with? A secon tier like Mountain Khakis or someone like OUCH?

I hope he gets a decent new spot-- When they signed him I hoped he'd be a good influence on the team riding style-- he races really clean and just rips your legs off. He had a great ride in the TOC last year coming into Pasadena.

Michael Creed, Chris Baldwin and Cesar Grajales were recently let go from the Rock Racing team due to financial cut backs. According to team owner Michael Ball, "those three riders had the highest paid salaries on the amateur team and I could not afford to keep them. It's not personal."

Creed always has issues with his teams.
Not exactly the best PR player.

+1. I remember reading an interview where he made fun of Discovery and Slipstream and everyone within the organization.
I remember him ripping on Armstrong, Vandevelde, Zabriskie, and Vaughters int he same interview.

I know, but still bad form.

That's like Bush making fun of his assistants and cabinet members for being bad at their job.

agreed and who's going to hire a guy when you know he's gonna badmouth you after he leaves the team. Kind of like dating a girl who hates all her ex-boyfriends. You know you're gonna end up being that guy.

Don't treat them like crap and they won't hate you....amazingly simple.

Creed didn't leave Rock. He was fired and heard about from a teammate first. There aren't many guys who haven't left Armstrong's side and not said bad things about him. He hates everyone who doesn't ride for him anymore.

them being ex-girlfriends or team riders? I guess it doesn't matter. Some people just have bad attitudes. I have no idea if Creed is one of these people. I do know its never a good idea to trash a former employer.

bad analogy (creed was low on the totem pole, not a team leader).

regardless, considering the **** job that people like rumsfeld and gonzalez did, W would be justified in his criticisms.

+1......I was going to add more, but don't want it to "go political" in here.

Baldwin and Grajales are back on; no telling if they accepted the same "If you show up at a race on your own dime you can wear our jersey but we won't pay you" offer Creed declined. I can't imagine Creed made more than those two. He posts on FGF once in a while but I wouldn't ask him something like that.

he'd have to be very talented or very cheap .... and i suspect the latter would be the consideration. you know it costs to have those oversized helmets made .
