MyUSACycling

OK, I am trying to figure this out and I know it is probably simple but just over my head, I am easily confused.

On MyUSACycling page I go to the results section. I just want to see how many points I have for my 3 upgrade. I just recently upgrade into the 4's but did a few 4/5 races.

I was 4th for my 4/5 race this last weekend. USA-C website says I received 7 points. Now it was a circuit race with 50 riders. 7 pts makes no sense according to this:

https://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=580

So do I have to keep track of my points on my own? Are the points listed on the usa site just for rankings? Or did they switch around upgrade points and I missed it?

You need to keep track on your own, they have upgrade points and ranking points and I think they are different.. hence people in the overall rankings with a couple hundred points...

yes. it's your responsibility to keep your race resume in order for purposes of upgrade requests. you need to keep track of the race/event name, date of the race, category raced, result (in the race, not in your category if broken down - i.e. if you raced 4/5, finished 12th but were 1st in cat 5, you finished 12th for purposes of your race resume), # of starters, and distance of the race.

I'm not sure about that. If they mix categories and have separate scoring then I'm pretty sure it's only within your own category. That's how I ended up getting short a few points for my upgrade, because separating out the other fields that we raced with changed the field size (but not my placing).

different district reps might handle differently.

^That's a good point, because I could have a lot more points. I'm going to email my local USAC rep pronto!

Yeah, I wish I could do that.

My 11th and 14th finishes would have given me a couple of points then.

Your situation seems similar to mine, and I haven't seen a definitive answer in the above responses to a question I have.

Perhaps I should email my rep, or perhaps someone knows:

I just upgraded to cat 4. I did four races total as a cat 5... 3 crits and 1 rr. All but one race were combined cat 4/5 fields. I won or podiumed in all but one race. Did I earn points in those races toward my upgrade to 3? Even though at the time I was racing as a 5?

Still doesn't make sense. Why can't usac and promoters get on the same page and figure out your points and rankings for you?? its too difficult? are there other sports who do it right, they can use as an example? (cx, mtb, track, running, swimming, whatever)

and what about "automatic upgrades"? nothing automatic about it if no one knows how many upgrade points you really have. encourages sandbagging.

because sometimes half the promoters out there don't even bother to submit their results to USAC.

You ca not collect upgrade points as a cat 5. No matter what field you are in.

fer cryin' out loud is it too difficult to take responsibility for your self and keep track of your race results? the laziness of people never ceases to amaze me.

It does make you wonder about the auto upgrade though. I keep track of all my own stuff just fine, but seems pretty hard to think you could be forced to "auto upgrade" when a good portion of results aren't ever posted (though MABRA seems to be doing a really quality job of getting in all of their results this year).

Auto-upgrade relies on people reporting people who have too many points. Many results are never reported to usacycling but in my experience they are posted somewhere. If nothing else, I usually take a picture of the results sheet of my races, so you could probably submit those as "proof" that someone has too many points.
