This bike racing stuff is for wussy

Yup.

But to play on more of an earnest pitch: how many are there of you who of you made it to Cat 2 without a coach, and didn't die a miserable death?

It was easy when I was 22. Don't think I'll get back there now.

Edit: On second thought, if I had the time to race more and with an eye towards races that would get me points (wheel sucking in crits ), I might be able to do it again. The few races I do tend to be whatever category is earliest in the day, and I don't think M40+ count towards upgrade (?)

Oh wait.

I guess I don't have any excuses then, huh?

I'm 20, I have a coach now, I weigh like 150ish, and I still suck.

Awesome!

I hope I will too haha. This is my first year training semi seriously, i.e. riding more than 4-5 hrs a week.

Ask me this question after the fall and I'll tell you yes. No formal coaching.

I will hopefully be there by next year at this time. My focus on TTs at this time of the year tends to hurt me points-wise, but you have to do what you love!

Then there's hope for me yet... I turned 29 this year.

Wish I would have discovered this at 16.

Who's he referring to ?? Power meter ? Coach ?? I did it the old fashioned way. Nailed on my own cleats, built my own frames & wheels, glued on tires, rode hard until my legs were really sore, rested, repeat ..... It's these new guys like Pcad with all the gadgets getting all confused in the head !

Most interesting. I'm thinking more and more that massive amounts of crit racing is where it's at.

Didn't have a personal coach, but we did have a team coach in college who gave training plans and some tactical advice.
