Wheel Cover or Aero Wheels
I've searched on wheel covers but it seems the last thread was from mid 2008 so I'm looking for more current insights.
I'm looking at various wheel options for my TT bike and would like to know what others are doing/finding. I'm considering 3 options...
option 1 - Hed Jet 9 in the front w. a Wheelbuilder.com headcover on my American Classic 420 in the back
options 2 - Hed 3 in the front w. a Wheelbuilder.com headcover on my American Classic 420 in the back
option 3 - a pair of Hed Jet 9s
option 4 - ???
My question is what are you doing and what are the pros and cons of the path you've taken? My concern w a wheel cover is taking the cover off and putting it back on time and time again given that I use my Am Classics for RRs at times.

A rear disk (or cover) is faster in basically all conditions unless it's so windy that you can't control it. The wheel cover isn't very difficult to put on and off. Maybe 5 minutes including cassette removal and to tighten the screws.
The front wheel option depends more on how fast you can TT. The Jet 9 is faster than the H3 under low yaw conditions, so if it's not windy and you're doing TT's at 25+mph it's probably a better option. The H3 is faster for high wind and slower riders.

I'm on Jet6's and 9's. I use my dual Jet 9's about 98% of the time, so when I TT keep a disc cover on my rear Jet 6 and use the Jet 9 front. I couldn't be happier. I've owned the older HED lenticular, Renn 575 and a Zipp 900 and I am equally as happy with the cover for $100. Taking off is a bit of a PITA, but it's not terrible. My training is way off from the past year so I can't compare splits. Seat of the pants I feel no difference with the wheel cover and the first TT I did this year with basically no training(and pneumonia) I was still moving at a good clip.
My vote is disc cover and if you TT near 25+, the Jet9. Below that, the H3 shines in high yaw angles.

Super helpful! Thank you! I'm up around 24 mph (wt aero wheels and an aero helmet) for the course I do, hoping to get to 25+, so it sounds like the wheel cover and a Jet 9 in the front is the way to go.
