His train kinda fizzled too soon.

Thor left too early and gassed. At one point, he even stopped pedaling.

the particular incident I was referring to was early in the clip, when the Milram guy kept trying to bump Cav off Hincapie's wheel.

when you got a jump like Cav, just about any wheel will do.

Yeah I saw the door just slam shut, the guy pedals looking for a wheel, looking, looking, looking, then finally just gives up.

TH blew. if he had a better lead out, man just a few more seconds! I'm sure he's pissed.

Cav is the man. No doubt.

I thought TH had a great leadout, but Cav's speed was untouchable.

+1

At one point it looked like his chin was over the front of his bars, lower than his stem

No way. Hushovd went waaayyy too early and only after his leadout dissolved. There were dueling leadouts, both for Cervelo and Columbia. Columbia pinched the Cervelo leadout train off against the barrier and forced Hushovd out of the top five. Then, after getting back up to the front, Hoshovd went at about 400m and Cavendish jumped around his leadout man and used Hushovd as the leadout. He was, as they say, red meat, just waiting to be eaten. Cav was positively salivating when Thor Hushov took off.

But really, Hushovd didn't have any semblance of position, so his only real option left was to take it long and hope for the best. He found himself on the front after getting swamped along with his leadout, and at that point, there is nothing you can do but just start sprinting and wish for a miracle.

Lead out? The way Cav came around Thor a perfect Pettachi train wouldn't have helped him. Cav has about 10% on every sprinter in the field. I don't really care for Cav much but there is no denying his speed and talent.

Agreed. I don't have any love affair with any pro rider, so Cav is no different than any other to me in that respect. The difference is his jump. Holy Hell. The acceleration within about 3 pedal strokes when leaving his lead out is damned impressive. His sprint cadence is also through the roof. Cool to watch.

It looks like Thor is in the wind from 300m out but Cavendish is still sitting on his leadout man until Thor passes him. Impossible situation for Thor.
