I'm not racing again until May, so I'm using the next 3 weeks to do some weird stuff. Last night involved a lot of big gear work, then sitting in an ice bath. My legs feel surprisingly good today.

Yep, on the trainer. I hardly ever do intervals outdoors, its just too hilly, I find it too difficult to maintain consistency.

Still unable to pedal. Bah.
Edit: Especially frustrating because I was putting out PB numbers last week. Was tested at 5.3w/kg @LT. This rest **** better not last much longer.

Crossing my fingers for you.
Are you keeping your knees warm? Sleeves etc? Does wearing a compression sleeve help?

Just recently I was suffering with, and self-treating, a few issues (lower back and plantar fascia pain). Reducing volume, icing, etc helped but every time I reintroduced full training load it would flair up again. Doctor was of little help other than a Rx for muscle relaxants. This went on for just over two months. Finally went to the physiotherapist and she got me fixed up in two weeks. Turned out my left calf was artificially weak due to nerve impairment from muscles knots in my lower back.
If they put you on NSAIDS consider using topical instead of oral. Topical agents concentrate well in the knee, no need to drug up the whole body.
Be well.

Took yesterday off because my right knee was a little tender after lifting Wednesday night. Just did my bike commute (the morning commute was in a downpour!) and about an hour of walking.
Today I did my regular commute, a half hour stroll during the lunch hour, and 1.5 hours of Z2+ in the breezy conditions.
The SO said she wants to go to the gym tonight, but I'll probably "pass" on weights and just do spin bike or easy treadmill instead. And it is a non-zero probability that we won't go at all based on previous experience.

^^^ It's a new type of beverage; I think he meant "spirits."
Warm up, pump up the volume for 3 minutes, more warm up, 10 minutes of fair driving, 5 minutes z2, 10 minutes of fair+ driving, cool down.

Well, the weather in Seattle was absolutely arse today...so myself and a training partner headed east over the mountains to the high plains deserts of Central Washington. It was *well* worth the 70 minute drive...low 60's and sunny. Awesome un-obstructed 22+ mile climb up to Blewett Pass and back down...

Rest week almost complete. I'm feeling fresh and ready to hammer.
Gonna do a friendly fred-paced group ride tomorrow that I like to do on rest weeks just to chat with the local shop customers.
3 hrs z1/z2 Sunday.
Back to business on Tuesday, racing again next Sunday.

Sounds awesome. I'm about to ice pick myself in the ear with this weather and my pathetic mileage. Maybe something east would be better. I live Monroe-ish, so Blewett is a bit further. Should be good stuff along Hwy 2 though.

We almost dropped into Leavenworth from Blewett, but a front started moving in and that would have pushed us to 100 miles round trip. We both have training rides tomorrow morning.

Progress report...
Pretended my hands were Six and my IT band was Gaius Fraking Baltar, and gave it a massage that would make Larry Flint blush. The result is that the orientation of my knee has changed a bit and my foot has turned outward by a good 20º. Pressure subsiding, etc. Tried to ride today, still feels too weird to take the chance. Going to hunt down a pool and play merman for a while, just to do something physical.
I gotta say, it's interesting seeing how interconnected riding and happiness are for me. Depressed Penguin is depressed.

Rest week over. And I do mean rest week. As in doing nothing. Not any of those 'only 8 hours this week' rest weeks that I read about here. Felt fantastic today. That is, until I hit a hailstorm on the way home. That didn't feel so good on my face.
