Today 4x10. The numbers confirm that my FTP has gone down. Time to pull it up again.

Should I try to find 1 hour all together to carry out the intervals?

Vo2=5x3-4 min efforts, neuromuscular= sprints, anaerobic and vo2 are the same no?

You could do threshold work in that commute too. Just do the entire commute in SST mode every day you're not doing specialized intervals.

I'm finally starting to feel some strength returning to my legs after a long time off due to illness. Fitness is still recovering though. Did manage a PB time on a small climb (5-6 minute range for me) today and finished this 25 mile route 2 minutes faster than I have previously. But even though that sounds good, my heart rate was probably 7-9 bpm higher than it would have been a year ago and I can tell my fitness just isn't there yet. So even though I'm able to put out some better efforts, repeatability of those efforts is not good. But it's still progress.

Looking better and better to line up for the last couple races of the season at the end of the month.

Anaerobic is sort of between neromuscular and VO2 max. Like 1 min.

Question:
Coming off 5 days of crits I took two full days off the bike. Should I do another easy day before getting back into it hard on Wednesday? I have two Road Race Championships coming in the next several weeks.

Ah okay. I figure you get enough training in that with surging in races.

Today was supposed to be a moderate tempo ride with 1 steep but short climb(1.5miles). However the 30 mph headwind on the way out forced me to ride just a bit harder then I wanted too. Still felt good to put some more miles in on the new bike, it sure does like to climb better then my previous bike(much stiffer).

Personally Id do an easy ride, but what does you body say? As I get older I need a little more recovery time after a tough week.

I feel OK right now but that could change on the trainer. I may do a low-key SST session, then hit it on Wed.

Easy 50' recovery ride with 7 little gear form sprints thrown in. My first time doing form sprints, they were interesting.

18-19 hour weeks.

While you all are in August, my body is in November. Next race probably mid March, so between now and then just gonna drop some crazy unstructured miles. 2x/wk threshold sessions.

Handful of 200km brevets between now and the move back to Japan right after Christmas. Top end is pretty much totally gone, and will mix some VO2 in 2 weeks out of every 4, but not at the expense of solid threshold training. Will have 1 month of on/off time in January when I get back to Japan.

Then... back to my own roads, without these lunatic drivers in DC. And.... mountains.... ahhhhhhhhhhhh. 5 months until first hill climb power test. I cannot wait to see how bad I am after being out of the mountains for 3 yrs.

Thanks RTC - my commutes are about 30 minutes long, and I was managing an IF of just over 1 for the hard ones until they put in road works that block off the bike track and make you need to detour around... really breaks up the rhythm.

I was going to do intervals on the way to work this morning - but it was raining - LOL - now chastising myself for being soft.

I much prefer to be out on the track doing intervals than on the trainer at home, but perhaps I will need to.

Cheers

Second day in a row with no training. I did do my bike commute (6 miles). The leg is feeling much better than yesterday, but not 100%.

Yesterday morning I could hardly walk and when I did it was like Dennis Weaver's character "Chester" in Gunsmoke, if you are old enough to know that. My leg was hurting from the calf all the way up to close to the hip. I figured that something was wrong lower down giving a chain reaction effect.

My wonderful wife tried to give me a leg massage yesterday morning. There was/is something "knotty" in the soft tissue in the upper calf that had me screaming in pain when my wife gently massaged it. I'm not joking about how much it hurt and I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I'm a guy that would rather get his fillings without Novocaine. Today it was merely tender. The good news is that it appears to be soft tissue so it can heal quickly if I don't push it. I'm happy that it doesn't appear to be tendonitis or worse yet, nerve damage.

I'll see how it is tomorrow. If it feels good I'll do an easy ride (Zone 2 or lower and 2 hours max).

I usually feel pretty lousy on day one after a two-rest-days-following-big-stage-race, so I vote for an easy day today.

Quick healing wishes to you; as Apollo Creed said to Rocky in Rocky III, "You know Stallion, it's too bad we gotta get old, huh?

1 hour @ 85%. Legs felt surprisingly good. I had to back off a tad at the beginning. Then try to keep the pace up at the end. Most of it was from mental fatigue. I have a hard time keeping steady for over 30 minutes, let alone an hour.

Tomorrow 20s @ 100%

1 hr of z1/2 before work. After work, I'm hoping to do the South River Ride. Judging by the flag, tonight's ride should push me into the Pit of Deep Fatigue.

One of those days. 1 hour of Core Symetrics and 2 hours on the bike. Was supposed to be z1-2 but because of a nasty headwind it ended up more of a zone 2-3. Felt pretty cooked. Not sure what is going on with me, but I feel whooped.

Long ride...92 1/2 miles. About 3:45 into the ride I stopped and got a Coke and a king-sized Snickers. I went from dragging ass to punching short climbs at 500W. It makes you wonder how much different Pot Belge or some other such crap must make you feel.
