6 hours 8 minutes in the rain and misery...i am in a hurt locker. The foam roller is cruel and unusual punishment this evening.

to hungover from Christmas parties to make the big ride. Planning on doing rollers this evening with 5 intervals of 4w/kg holding as long as I can. Penance for being fat.

4hr saturday morning group ride yesterday. went a bit harder uphill than i should be going at this point on account of the couple of pros who show up and drag us around.
at one point on a steep climb near the end of the ride, one of said pros- on whom i have at least 30 pounds and ten years- said to me, incredulously, "you're at threashold?"
thanks guy.
still so much fun though. the learning experience of riding wih those guys is priceless and a couple of high intensity efforts a week aing gonna hurt me.

The Sunday team ride: 4 hours, 40's F, some misty rain, VERY humid, overcast
A couple of "efforts" mixed in to spice it up a bit, but no sprinting for me.

4 hours with teammates. Good times. The temp was slightly higher than yesterday but the snow on the ground made it feel much colder.
Less hammering than yesterday--yesterday we were TTTing it home because my teammate had to teach a meditation class (yes, we are all well aware of the irony), then she taught a yoga class that I went to in the evening. She's been ripping my legs off on the bike lately but at least she went easy on me in yoga.
She's a total diesel and great TTer, and our other teammate we ride with a lot is a pure mountain goat. Riding with them all the time has been making me feel very unfit lately. The one area where I seem to do okay is in endurance--I finish the rides strong and can pull everyone home, so I guess that's some consolation.
We also had a teammate's friend with us, and it made me appreciate riding with them all the time. He was fine, but not the smooth wheel that I've grown used to--upper body bobbing, occasional swerving, can't hold a line, random accelerations. It was all pretty subtle but I was happy when he started dying and decided to sit at the back.

so i don't get dropped like a sack of potatoes come collegiate season. i'm a fatty trying to cut it as a "classics specialist," and i might just have some chance on the punchy hills in the road races if i play my cards right. And eff, the courses this year are littered with hills: 4 mile climbs, sprinter's hills, can't swing a dead cat without hitting a hill...

Okay, I'm amazed at how much difference lowering tire pressure makes when riding rollers.

11 hrs this week.
Today was 3 hrs of mock racing with my team, split into 2 groups, cat 5s 4s and me as a 3. It was a TON of fun, (like your mom). We did 3 laps of the same loop, with each loop as it's own race and each race having an intermediate sprint and an intermediate climb. Since I was the highest cat, (though not the strongest rider), I was kinda captain of my team.
1st race, had our heaviest guy (and sprinter) attack a downhill about a mile from the sprint. Then we just had to follow the wheels of the other team. Our guy took the sprint, and afterwards we had a 1 v 5 scenario, which quickly became a 5 man TTT the 7-odd miles through the climb to the finish.
Then we switched me to the other team to even it up a bit. I attacked from the gun. I'd sprint, the other team would get 1 guy to me, then I'd sprint again (make him follow), then sit up. rinse wash repeat. This dropped their sprinter and a bunch of the pack fodder. Ended up with about 7 guys through the sprint zone, which our team won since the other team's goto sprinter was dropped. Attack immediately after the sprint and we ended up with a 2 v 1 situation in my favor. I wasn't designated for sprint/climb/finish, so I held pace, and got my teammate to get on my wheel and open the gap. Unfortunately he is a bit dim and just pulled like 8 feet behind me while their teammate got a free ride. We easily could have had a 2-man to the finish break. My guy took the climb, and the other team's rider and myself basically tied for teh finish.
Last race, everything was together through the sprint, our designated climber attacked immediately after the sprint and got ~30 seconds, held it for 6 miles to the climb with 2 of their guys chasing and me on their wheel. Our breakaway climber wanted to give up so bad, and they had closed in, but I'd yell "GOGOGOGO" from ~10 seconds back and he'd put the gas back on. After the climb, it was 2 v 1 (in their favor) to the finish and they boxed me in really tight, but a section of road appeared for a driveway, which I took and came around them to win.
Hella fun.

Did an hour yesterday, and an hour today, on the trainer. Quality of the indoor ride is feeling better than what I do outside, but, I'm going to try and get outside on the road at least once per week for longer times in the saddle.
With the end of December approaching, woosh, March and April will be here before we know it.
