Disappointed
I took 12th place in my first cat5 race this weekend. When results were released right after the race they didn't have my name anywhere on the list, so I went and talked to the race official. They found my name said it was their mistake and that they would fix it for the official online positng. They just posted the official results online and they never fixed it. I'm just bummed that I don't get credit for being there. I paid money and all and drove 2 hrs from another state and all yada yada yada.
I like the Tour de Champaign race, but wish they could keep track of what they are doing. |
You can still count it as one of your 10 races. It's tough not to see your results, so I'm sure you're frustrated. In the big picture, it doesn't matter. Kudos on the finish, and good job working with the officials immediately after the race -- that usually fixes things.
In a couple months you'll be winning, and you'll be happy not to have this 12th place tarnishing your record :thumb: |
Sorry to hear about that. After a year or two of racing, some of us come to the conclusion that when we're out of the points and money, results arent really that important. But to some, 12th over 13th means the world.
A word of advice to you, as a former cat 5, is that you should just keep track of your own results. They won't really check when you go to upgrade, and a nicely documented race resume helps. |
I had a similar thing happen on Saturday, got 18th but was marked DNF. I just made sure I'm getting credit for the start, but like others have said just make a race resume and include this result.
From what I can tell, they pretty much take your word for which races you did. (anyone confirm/deny?) |
I'm glad that it will still count towards my 10 races. That is what I was most concerned about. I'll just make sure to keep track of my results from now on.
|
And congrats on your first race, and good finish!
In MABRA, they generally take your word for it, at least if your resume is nicely recorded. A good format is to keep a chart of your place, number of starters and finishers, and any notes (i.e. this turn sucked, or killed it on this hill, not enough water...). This will help you when you do the race again next year. |
Some of the races I've done show me as DNF or not even raced at all. Heck, even one race where I was on a different team all together. I figure if I'm not in the top 10, I don't need to waste anyone's time. If I know I've placed top ten I stay around for the results and make sure they fix it before they are posted.

They had me as unknown rider yesterday. I sat up before the sprint (again...) so nothing worth fixing. |

Me (in the gold with blue helmet) suffering on the fourth lap. The person to the side of me in red went on to lap the field (with 3 others) and win the race. |
Have any lower resolution photos? This one has too much detail.
But to add something slightly worthwhile to this thread, no one will question your list of 10 race starts for cat 4 upgrade. You are responsible for maintaining it yourself. |
What can I say... I spent all my money on my bike and not my cheap camera.
