Former USPS and Lotto professional Stive Vermaut suffered a heart attack during a ride on June 13th and passed away on Wednesday. He was 28.

He leaves behind a child and his expecting wife.

Terrible. With his heart condition though he should not have been riding in the first place.

RIP.

He got an ok from an Italian doctor.

His wife has warned other riders now to make better choices when choosing a doctor.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say drugs were probably involved somehow... doesn't this make like the 4th or 5th rider under 30 to die of a heart attack in the past couple years ?

What a shame...

He had a congenital heart problem - not everything involves drugs...

Jeff,

wrong on the drugs, he had a congenital heart defect, if I recall his father recently
died of same.
But yeah, an awful lot of young fit riders are dying of heart attacks.
Marty
