TdF Gearing

Does anyone have any info on what gearing the riders use for the mountains and how different that is from the "flat" stages?

I'll take a shot:

11-21 39-53 on the flats
11-23 or 25 39-53 in the mountains

I believe Tyler even used a compact crank (34-50) in the mountains last year.

All 10 speed, of course.

The Velo Magazine supplement - which uses interviews from riders - lists the "key gears" in all stages so far as 53 or 54x11. For the big mountains they go all the way to 39x23.

Cheers...Gary
