Wired Powertap and Race Wheels.

I have a wired powertap (the comp version) laced into my training wheel that I use with the powertap head unit and a heart rate strap. I also have a set of full carbon tubulars (sans powertap hub); my "race day" wheels. Is there a way that I can use my carbon tubulars with my wired powertap head unit and heart rate strap as if it was a regular computer? I would really love to use and see the data, excluding power, obviously, (distance, speed, heart rate , energy expenditure, odo, cadence, etc.) while I'm using my carbon wheels and I don't want to have to buy another computer when I already have my powertap head unit mounted nicely on my stem.
Thanks for any Imput!

Heart rate is about the only thing you'll get w/o the hub; unless you have the external cadence sensor. All the other items: distance, speed, energy expenditure, and odometer are calculated by the hub.

So...Could I buy the external cadence/speed sensor and then get all that info + heart rate on my cpu while using my carbon tubulars?

Incorrect.

I Have a wired powertap that I use for training. When I race I use Zipp 303's tubular.
You can set up the CPU as a cyclocomputer only, put a magnet on your rear wheel, at the point in the spoke that it crosses the line on the sensor. Put the watts to read current watts, set the lower line on current cadence and then press and hold selector it might be press and hold mode, anyway, it will display HR, speed and whatever you want on the lower line.

He's correct. I forgot it was speed/cadence sensor. Adding the speed/cadence sensor should get you the information you need using the powertap head unit.

All you need to do is put a magnet on your race wheel so it comes close to the fin, change to display cadence on the head unit, with the cursor on the bottom row, then hold select for 2 seconds. The word "WATTS" will disappear. Speed, HR, and timing will work fine.

In the manual (pdf), search for "cycle computer" to see instructions.

To get back to power display, go back to cdc and hols select for 2s again. "WATTS" will reappear and you're off to training.

Without a seperate cadence sensor, it will calculate cadence from the hub. It's reasonably accurate. Personally I wouldn't bother with a seperate cadence sensor.

Of course, I would get a Quarq.
