What is a wireless Powertap 2.4 (non-SL)?
So I've been looking at used Powertaps and came across a "wireless Powertap 2.4". The hub has the carbon shell, and on the black dome, "2.4" is printed in yellow.
I've looked on the Saris site, but sadly, there is no archive section and searching on BF is getting me tons of hits for the 2.4 SL models, so I was hoping you guys could help.
Do any of you guys know what this model is and if there were any major issues or problems to be aware of?
Thx.

This is the wireless model they had before the launched their new (current) lineup. It's the same as the wired SL, but with different electronics. (same bearings, axle, FHB, etc).

If you don't KNOW that's it's an oddball unit - you could retrofit the older steel axle and freehub - it's almost certainly the 2.4 SL, and just is not called that on the hub. The 2.4 was always a SL back in the day (only a year or two ago).

It's a 2.4 SL.
The early ones had a problem with the signal dropping out periodically. There was a firmware upgrade for the head unit and the hub to take care of it. I used mine for 1.5 years before I sent it in for the upgrade since it wasn't that much of a problem. After that (which Saris did for free) it works perfectly.
The only drawback to the non ANT+ units is that you are stuck using the current Powertap head unit and can't use one of the new ones (a bunch of new ANT+ computers were announced at Interbike but aren't out yet) or a Garmin. Saris will do a ANT+ upgrade to the 2.4 for $100.
