Tour of the Bahamas... Back for Jan. 2010. Who's in?
This race took a one year hiatus due to sponsor $ issues, but its back in January 22-24 with three stages held on the 23/24. A TT and then a Circuit race and on Sunday a RR. In 2008 the (Pro, 1, 2) race was won by Tyler Farrar and Dave Zabriskie was among the riders. There were other Pro Continental teams with riders in the field too like Jelly Belly, Rite-Aid, Bissell, Rock Racing, Kelly Benefits...
They have a 3/4 category as well as womens and juniors categories. What better way then to kick of the 2010 season with some internatioal cycling (yes, you need a passport now). It sounds like a lot of fun and is being co-promoted/run by Topwview Sports who does pretty much the whole Florida Cycling race scene.
I'm in, who else?
BTW, for you northerners, this is a good chance to get the significant other out to a race. Surely they wont be mad at sipping coladas on Cable Beach at the Wyndham (the host hotel)...

I'm thinking about the 3/4 race. Doubt I''ll get any teammates over for it. Any interest in a BF alliance "team"?

That would be an awesome trip. It'll have to wait until at least the year after next though, I'm still in college.
At least I already have a passport. I could probably get my parents to sail down, stay with them on their boat, they could watch me race (as much as you can watch a stage race).

it won't happen this year - but down the road (read: when money isn't so tight) this could turn into a good meet-up for BFers ... and it would absolutely be a win-win for those as have SO situations.

I'll work on them. Getting some of us to drive to Orlando is often problematic.

They have to have some flights from TPA to NAS, no? I checked other airline tickets (besided BahamasAir and saw decent prices. Of course I'm flying from MIA or FLL, but spirit air has some awesome 9$ fare club prices (15$ r/t before taxes, which makes is $138 per person for the flight), although spirit air is like flying on a greyhound bus!

if anything, this would fall at a really weird spot in my racing calendar... probably too long after 'cross to really count on keeping that racing fitness, and in the middle of early build for the regular season.
Maybe this would make for a two peak season,
'cross as building towards this, then a month-ish to hone a RR edge on that fitness,
and not peak in the regular season until later in the year...
eh, in all likelihood I won't make it for a couple of years, I'll obsess about that down the road

Hmmm. Lemme talk to my wife.
Edit: "two peak"? If I go, I **might** not show up drunk; that's as much preparation as I'll do.

heck... more like "preparation you won't do" ;-)
racing isn't one of them, but there are a list of things that I am significantly better at when altered.

Yeah, it's too early for my "peak" as I have other races in mind where I plan to do some damage this season, but it will be fun regardless... Everyone will be in the same boat anyway... Maybe some of us Floridians will be targeting this one, but not too many of us.

I have thought of this in the past. The chance to TT against Z? I would love that, even though it is wicked short. I will have to look into it.

This would be a mini-vacation and a reason to get the wife out to see the racing. Nothing I'd be looking to peak for. Plus, I could always tell my grandkids that "hell yeah I did international stage races." LOL

There's 40+ and a 50+. I could only do those or the P1/2.
Be worth considering, though the thought of handing anything carbon to the baggage gorillas these days is scary.

It is done on regular road bikes. No aero anything. So that will hold speeds down a touch.
I think the idea is to eliminate having to travel with a TT bike and gear.
