it dates me a bit, but i remember being a little kid in the room while my dad watched "all in the family." in one episode, archie's "sophisticated" neighbor cooked him vichyssoise. archie didn't understand why the soup was cold.
first time i'd heard that word and it stuck out. i was probably 7 or so.

nice caldor reference.
to bring this back on-point...i'm about 3# lighter than i've ever been at this time of year. by july i'm typically 5-7# lighter than i am in december. gives me some hope that i might make a particular weight goal this year.
gets hard as i bottomed out at a true BF in the 8's while living a normal life. being 3-5# lower would mean i'd be around 5-6% which would be hard to sustain for anything other than blips of time.
(i've got one of those scales that you step on and it uploads your weight, so i've managed to collect ~5 years of data with no real effort...neat to slice and dice now.)

I'm 10 pounds over race weight, at 157. Last year I got down to 152, but still had some belly fat. 147 is probably my floor, and with Everest Challenge planned, I'd like to hit that weight. Last month was a bad month as I was sick and ate healthy at 2k-3k calories a day. Right now I'm going down but for me its hard to monitor my calories when I'm burning 1000-2000 calories a ride.

I was eating less trying to lose some weight - lost maybe 3 lbs but also lost power. Eating more now for a few weeks and feeling much stronger already. Maybe, just maybe, I can keep the weight low and hit my ftp high from last year.

Re-reading "Racing Weight". Somehow missed this the first time through:
Score!
In moderation, alcohol consumption has a positive effect on cardiovascular health and no long-term effect on body weight. Do not score your first alcoholic drink of the day if you’re female or your first two if you’re male. Each additional drink earns a –2 score, however, because drinking beyond moderation is much worse than not drinking at all.

It’s unclear if the higher levels were the result of an increase in testosterone, which would be beneficial to recovery, or because alcohol inhibited the muscles from using the hormone, which would be bad.

again, no idea about your situation, but your post made me think of this. until someone is getting to 5, 6% BF and is stable, losing more weight shouldn't be an issue (and that is rare for most of us).

not saying this is you, but lots of folks who feel they can't produce power at lighter weights are either running big caloric deficits OR not giving things enough time to stabilize.
