Let's all quit our teams

Think of the benefits if we all just quit our teams and raced against each other as individuals.

It would be like, what do you cyber dorks call it? MMURPGs or somethin?

1) No branding on your asscheeks
2) We could like, form alliances during races like they do in reality TV
3) Pretty sure racing unattached makes you irresistable to forum mods like Siu Blue Wind
4) No more BS uniform requirements
5) I could like, sprint at the end of a race and try and like, win
6) Eh......tell me what's a leadout again?
7) We could like, keep our winnings....WOW!

Well? Good idea, eh?

Hmm. That is indeed an oversight of mine.

Perhaps USAC would since they'd have no race promoters to push around anymore.

Or..... Pcad could sell all his schwag and start a fund?

Interesting perspective.

But wouldn't racing be more competitive and enjoyable if we were objectivists?

Do you enjoy the influence sponsorships have on your team?

MMORPG's have teams. In fact, in most RPG's you can't succeed if you try to do it solo. If you're going to patronize a group of people, at least educate yourself first.

Sorry. Respect to the MMORPGers.

So do you sign up for a team before you start in exchange for something, or, do you go around meeting people and make a posse?

Indeed.

For the non-satirical: do you think you are missing out on anything by being on a team?

I'm sure someone will tell me to search the forums now. I tried to be entertaining, really.

It would kind of be like basketball where only the guy that made the most baskets won.

7) We could like, keep our winnings....WOW!

Well? Good idea, eh?
1) you mean i need to buy stuff instead of get it free from the team, no thanks
2) do that anyways with friends on other teams, it perfect for primes, no one realizes you working together
3) if that's what turns you on (not that there's anything wrong with that)
4) what requirements?
5) i do sprint and win, and when i lead out a teammate, i still place
7) i get to keep my winnings and the team kicks in $$$ and entry fee if i podium

Well the racing would come down to who is the strongest more often...but I like the chess match that comes about when you have teams playing options. I know this doesn't take place much in the lower cats but once you get into the upper cats and masters categories it does...this is when racing a bike really get good.

I love being on this team. My sponsor is a great guy who is behind us 100%. We advertise on our jerseys and bibs for some good causes such as Juvenile Diabetes. Our team races like a team with tactics and aggressive riding. We have fun together and enjoy each others company on and off the bike. If I wanted to do something that wasn't team oriented I'd start doing tri's or play tennis or run or swim.

Funny we get very little in the way of free stuff...yet we attract the best masters racers in Texas. We crushed the Texas State Cup points competition in the masters category. We ride as team better than any team in TX and yet we get less than the so called big teams...I could care less if I get free anything, I'd rather ride with guys I like and ride on a winning squad.

I don't think it's generally about on-the-road success so much as it's someone on the team putting a lot of effort into working potential sponsors.

At least at the amateur level.

If someone has an 'in' with a big investment banking firm who is willing to throw a lot of cash at you for a logo on a jersey, you can afford free stuff. If a sponsor can provide something a such low cost that they can include that as part of the sponsorship deal in lieu of cash, there you go.

And I've always chosen cycling teams based on how entertaining the people are (aside from my university team, which I selected based on their masters degree...)
