What tubular tires are you running?
Picked up some Stingers and noticed they went with the wide rim. HED recommends a 22-23mm tire. The last tubulars I had 2 years ago, I rode Vittoria Corso CX's. They, in my opinion, were very fragile and I am going to stay away from them this time around. I went through 4 of them in one season with flats. I have no idea if I was the culprit or just bad luck, but I do know that my Michelin P2/3R's have not had this problem.
These will be race mostly with the occasional training ride thrown in. I have been looking at the Conti Competitions and Veloflex Carbon or Criterium. I race crits and TT's and these wheels will be used for both disciplines.
Thanks.

I've heard lots of recommendations for the Bontrager RXL Pro's. Very fast tires, although I don't know much about their puncture resistance. I'd suggest referencing Al Morrison's CRR data on biketechreview.com.
I wouldn't suggest using Conti's, especially for TT's. They use butyl tubes and subsequently are very slow tires.

velofelx carbons will be like night and day compared with continental sprinters, the old sprinters were ok, but still no where near the veloflex.
if you punctured 4 vittorias corsa cx someting is going wrong I'd say, still have the front on my race wheels from about 3 years ago and the rear punctured when I loaned it someone and it was almost down to the threads racing a crit track in a public park kids like to drink and break the beer bottles in.
The veloflex will be very fast and smooth tyres, but they do not last long.

Had two of these completely delaminate. No thanks.
Bontrager/Zipp on the TT bike. After a rash of flats have hundreds of miles on the Conti comps with no issues and a big smile.
Running a Vredenstien lab on one set of wheels and am very pleased after several hundred miles.

I was looking into the Tufo Tubular-Clinchers. Does anyone have experience with those?

Vittoria sponsored my team last season. They handed me half a dozen corsa CX's at the beginning of the season, and I only used the two I mounted up in February. Front still probably has half a season left in it. Zero flats. Methinks you were just unlucky.

Others who've used different versions take them on/off easier so maybe this was specific to that model or even that pair, but getting the things mounted was ridiculous.
IMO, awful product that incorporates the worst qualities of a tubular (ease of changing it, once you get a flat it's not fixable) and the worst qualities of a clincher (weight of a clincher rim) in one product.
Additionally, iirc the crr of these is among the "industry worst".

1+. On the race wheels, I use the EVO CX 21mm. Wish I could get more than 1000 miles out of the rear, but oh well. And on the training wheels I have Conte Sprinter's with Tufo sealant. They ride pretty well, and seem tough, and I get around 2000 miles out of the rear tire. If you're prone to flats, that Tufo sealant seems to work very well.

I have a set of the latest Zipp tubies. I have those before and tried something else and ended going back to them. Yes, they are on zipp rims but so what... The 2009/2010 tires are 23mm wide and they seem to wear pretty well IMO. I think they are a good mix between training durability and racing.

They actually all came during races with no prior warning(no potholes or big noticeable bumps). One was definitely my fault as I ride through the grass for 15' at Grandview to get to registration.
And where the heck are you riding by my house that has all this chipseal?
And thanks for the help guys. Looking at the Corsa II's or RXL's I guess.

I don't even know what the KS is. CX/CG was the old standard, but CGs are kinda like dirt road tires now. So CX/CX it is. If the KS is the one without tread, doesn't much matter.
I think the CX has the thing under the tread too. Evo? I just buy them.
