Getting back into it...

After being out of the game for 14 years, I'm thinking about getting back in. There's a 50 mile road
race near my home and it might be the motivation I need.

So...imagine my suprise to find that the event is sanctioned by ABR....not USCF. I found their website
and read a little, but I guess I'd like some background....

How long have they been around?
What are they about?
What's their relationship with USCF, if any?
Significant rule differences?
If your race for one, can you race for the other?
ect......

Any info is appreciated! Now I need to find a new bike and start dieting

no clue what abr is, but as UMD () wrote, uscf has been usurped by another organization with a lame logo.

ABR is a midwest thing.

It's pretty great. You can show up and race whatever category you want. They often don't put hay bails in front of light polls at the finish. The prizes are minimal. But you can fairly easily become a "national champion".

Last year I won a cat 5 race. The next day I showed up for the second day of racing and registered as a cat 5 and they said "You know you can race the cat 4 race if you want?" Crazy, their site says something about 15 mass starts.

Last weekend I registered for the cat 4 race and said "Can I also register for the cat 3 race?"

"Sure, that'll be $10"
