Remind me not to put At the Gates on my endurance ride playlist. Metal and zone 2 just do not mix well together.

No music for me. I'm watching the Stanley Cup playoffs while on the trainer.

Work sucks. This guy is in town tonight:

Tickets are $5 to $15, the concert starts in 2 hours, and I have grades to finalize and submit.

Still thinking of the 40k.. Turns out that on May 1 2010, I was the fastest guy from Gainesville in all categories, and 18th fastest guy in the state (and there's some wicked fast guys here).

Put on Dire Straits first album (30 or so year old vinyl) and Spawn1 sat down to listen along. Really awesome guitar playing there.

Titus Andronicus might be the best musical act to come out of NJ since...... well I won't mention the obvious.
The Monitor in it's entirety is a cd worth spending a couple bucks on.

edit: when did NJ and Brooklyn become the hotbed of new good music?

Why?

The coffee shop that I am finals cramming in is playing some continuous Chuck Berry. Good times.

I just received a free cello concert from a classmate before a study session. There was a little bach, a little saint-saens, and some vivaldi.

I'm inspired now to do more than just read charts and jam (piano). I think I might have to pick up some sheet music and re-acquaint myself with more virtuoso-style playing. I used to be quite fond of Debussy and Chopin back in the day.

this morning: various parts of "the well-tempered clavier"
this afternoon: DnB, gregorian chants (well, technically it is "Plainsong" and its outgrowth of polyphony), & late-90's trance
tonight: i don't know yet... probably some Belgian/Norwegian style trip-hop (Hooverphonic, Mandalay, Morcheeba, Smoke City, etc)

Chopin...ugh. Never liked playing his stuff, don't particularly like listening to it. Rachmaninoff is probably my favorite composer for piano

my hands were a bit on the small size - unlike chopin's... this meant I had to work on my technique and hand speed, it wasn't too bad all things considered.
I loved playing chopin, still do, just don't get around to it very often.

I just picked up a book of Rach, I haven't played him much recently - should be fun, Kabalevsky is probably my favorite to play, Chopin is good even if over played - there are more shades to his pieces than you can get away with in competition playing Mozart/Bach/Beethoven/etc

His Nocturnes is a prime example of this. Sometimes genius shows itself in a seemingly simple guise.

I was just listening to some of those yesterday... incredible moments when played well.

Ya, i appreciate the beauty of Chopin, i just wasn't all that talented and wasn't into practicing, and Chopin definitely requires more subtelty. I much preferred to just hammer on as fast and loud as possible in a major key, so pretty much the opposite of most Chopin.
