In "honor" of the whatever anniversary of the release of Sgt. Peppers I listened to this instead the other day:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...yL._SY300_.jpg Original vinyl, first issue with some of the songs censored. I much prefer it to the Beatles album. The musical inventiveness doesn't compare. And I much prefer "Pet Sounds" as well as that was the "bar" the Beatles were attempting to surpass. That is a singular work of genius. |

I listen to it straight through at least every couple months or so |
this music video is ****ing awesome:
...but also very NSFW |
Driving around last night running errands... the local college radio station played this:
Setting off a huge 80'sw flashback for me, which continues herewith. I've been loading up my phone for tonight's ride. |

hell yeah I always wanted to start a Chicano AC/DC cover band en espanglish: "Es un LONG WAY! to el top, si tu quieres rock y rolllll!" |
chopin nocturne op37 no1
op69 no1 and no2 have been my fav for a long time and this one might just edge them out |
naw scratch that, nocturne op37 no2 is all the rage in the clubs/radio top40 these dayz
|
This is a gem...if the crazy ass dancing sax player's horn sounds familiar, it's Lenny "Holy Crap" Pickett from the SNL band. Truly a bad ass.
Did I mention "Holy Crap?" |
Just ended up at a really neat bar with a sinatra cover band. Good stuff.
|
Tower of Power ftw. My dad tried to get me to listen to them when i was an akward angsty teen but ive only recently opened up to them or that genre as a whole.
edit: that rhythm/bass line change at ~5:06 is super boss. i just stopped in the middle of a set during my ab workout to post this bcuz i found it that compelling. that sax player does sound familiar now that you mention it. my parents always watch snl and i see an episode or two most times i go home (30 min drive away) |
Just listened to this on the vinyl I bought way back when:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_75_d4mX0J8...1600/ALBUM.jpg A really like "White Summer". |

i saw the sound of music yesterday with a small group of lovely ladies at the SDMT (San Diego Musical Theatre) at the Birch theater in N Park... it was lovely
here are some covers of my favorites: and of course: |
i was at a Lincoln Center tribute to Coltrane about 1.5 years ago. They performed A Love Supreme in its entirety. Pretty neat stuff despite me not knowing wtf is going on other than the opening melody.
|
I have been searching for the artist/title of this song since 2001. I heard it originally on an Australian internet radio station called RadioReggae. I ripped an .asf file of it back then. No one I knew had ever heard of it. Last week my wife and daughter show me this app called Shazam and damn if it didn't identify it in 15 seconds.
|
A love supreme is very heavy indeed
I mean that figuratively Here's one of my fav Monk/Trane jams, certainly less cerebral: |
Been listening to the Drive soundtrack lately. It's damn good.
Also this just came up on the ol' itunes: Last one to cleanse the pallet. Love me some Bill Evans and Jim Hall. |
In my effort to make this trip a little more vacation-esque, I went to see Streetlight Manifesto last night. Lots of moshing, good time.
|
Bill Evans ftw
