Feeling for you. Reminds me of the day I heard Cobain died. I kept my thoughts to myself, but I was hoping that they'd stop playing that crap so much since there'd be no new material. It's possible that I liked some of their stuff at one time, but it's so overplayed that I just can't stand it any more (since like 1992).

Currently spinning "Kind of Blue" for Spawn1.

I told him that Miles was most certainly in the Top 10 musical geniuses of the 20th Century and he needed to know his music. And I told him that he would recognize most of the songs. And he has.

"*****'s Brew" next. More genius stuff, but he probably won't know these numbers.

Miles's "On the Corner" happened to be near the turn-table.

I guess that I will be skipping a few steps in Spawn1's musical education.

Fusion FTW - I've been listening to a lot of "Live-Evil" lately - the first album where they switched to Keith Jarret on keys. Guy's a maniac.

Also check out the proto-fusion, pre-beeches brew album: The In a Silent Way sessions. I like them so much, I even borrowed my avatar from the album cover!

NICE!

Love that album. I still have it on vinyl from when it first was issued. (Yes, I am that old.)

My vinyl copy of "In a Silent Way" is way over 30 years old and holds a special place in my house.

I guess that means it's not hitting the turntable anytime soon...

I've been wanting to make a Tshirt of the album photo (again my avatar) with no text for a while. Anyone who comes up to me knowing my shirt would be automatically cool in my book.

I started playing some really old (for me) vinyl: "Freak Out" by Zappa/Mothers.

Holy crap, "Trouble Every Day" is hip-hop from the 1960's. Great song!

those columbia 2-eyes and 6-eyes (the original "IaSW" was a 2-eye) are pretty special and worth finding.

my copy turns 45 this year.

I have no idea if my vinyl pressing is collectable. I just know that it is awesome.

not a collectibility thing (for me, at least)…it's a sonic thing. the early 80s columbia/cbs pressings tend to be pretty good. the 70s pressings usually leave something on the table (usually thinner, flexible, lower-quality vinyl).

it's funny, but there are notable differences in pressings (and even in runs within a pressing).

there's so much artistry to the actual production of an LP that is also reflected in it.

Just spun both sides of Doc and Merle Watson's "Then and Now". I had to play "If I Needed You" twice because it was so awesome.

a pretty strange melody (and even stranger chord progression) from one of my all time fav albums:

my buddies and I have started fooling around with this one, no one has any idea WTF to play during their solos.

I just kinda keep my left hand rolling through the chord progression, and hit (seeminly) random notes with my right hand. Like alot of monk tunes, there are chromatic elements to the progression, so i'm always a half note away from something that sounds right. If it sounds weird, just walk up or down one step at a time lol

Playing Freddie Hubbard's "First Light" for Spawn1 on CTI vinyl. He plays/played flute so I wanted to play some Hubert Laws for him.

A little too much "smooth jazz" for my taste, but there are moments that are really awesome.

i'm not sure anything Freddie Hubbard can be classified as smooth jazz, but I get what you are saying.

most things that are technically classified under the "smooth jazz" genre make me wanna vomit
