UCLA Road Race

http://www.socalreg.com/schedule.asp?race=UCLA+RR

I will be participating in this race and I'm curious why so few people have signed up. The race is this weekend with 2 days left to register and it's practically empty. Am I missing something? Anything I should know about this race? Maybe spring break is having an effect.

This will be my first sanctioned road race and I'd like to experience it with a full field. My first race had over one hundred 5s in the field, so I'm just wondering what's up.

I'm assuming it has to do with the elevation profile...

Forecast says 25mph winds from the SW in Palmdale that day. Sounds fun. That would be great if it was a tailwind going up that hill but I don't think it will work that way.

It is basically the same course as Devil's Punchbowl. It's a very hard race. Enjoy!

They are still there unless this isn't USAC sanctioned.

Hairnet's first race was Ontario Dare to Race GP, 4/5 mixed, with a field limit of 75.

I'm thinking of doing the UCLA 4's race, but am not a climber. Should be interesting...

Junu, of course I will be the heaviest guy. Me + bike = 200+ lbs

It will hurt, but I have to do it sometime

I suspect a lot of peeps will reg in the next day or two, and many more will register the day of.

Everyone should come check this course out!! The finish stretch is much more selective than Devil's Punchbowl. Very safe and true test of climbing endurance, says the 53kg climber

lol i've been scared. yeah, don't be surprised if you find yourself doing a solo TT after the firs hill. I still don't think you will DFL cause I'm sure there are at least a couple 5s who registered for this blindly but I can't imagine someone over 155 lbs going into this with any kind of confidence.

and damnit refrain from using my real name on here yeah?

LOL agreed. when your pro contract stipulates that you will have to enter races out of your league, its finally time to start ****ting bricks. literally.

Collegiate B's at 6:50 in the morning doesn't work so well when you have a restaurant shift that finishes up at midnight. No thank you, although the WCCC is some fun fun racing, I must say.

Maybe, but I don't feel prepared with my fitness. Been neglecting my riding with stress from school.

at sdsr, there were these juniors in the 4s field, on lap 6, hill #12: i was pretty much seeing stars, and got dropped about 1 km to the finish, but right before that, some 120 lb 16 year old said 'aww damn this is the final lap?' as in that course was not difficult for him at all. being 'able' to crest over a climb is one thing, doing it at race pace and not burning out 2 minutes into the climb is definitely an advantage for few over others.
