Oh Snap!
It must have been really hot in there for all that carbon to spontaneously explode.

Video! Slow motion even. |
RIP Poor BMC
that girl in red damn nearly died. in a wild twist of fate she managed to slide under everything flying at her arriving at on the infield virtually unscathed. crouching tiger hidden dragon track team.
i got to watch this before my first track omnium.
The girl who fell initially was hit hard on the back of her head by the wheel of the bike that broke in two. Lucky her head stayed on!

on sunday morning, bbc was showing this almost as much as monday night football showed the clip of joe theismann's leg break.
Boy those CF frames detonate easily. A ti or steel frame would never do that.
Notice the sponsor name on the USA kit?
OUCH |
I don't know much about track racing, but who's fault was it? The girl who went down first (in red), or the girl originally in front of her who was moving up the track?
girl in red. People move up and down the track all the time, you have to be ready for it (and not sit there with your front wheel overlapping theirs by 6 inches).

seems like one of those times where the brittleness of carbon vs metal is a good thing, like the crumple zone of a car- rather it give than your bones
That's how my Bianchi broke when I rode it into a curb. Of course, the cables kept the front end from careening down the street.
The look on her face as she's sitting off to the side just after the crash kind of reminds me of this. The look is.... no look at all, as if it's a total reboot of the nervous system.
That look matches descriptions from my friends as they approached the scene of my recent crash. Sitting up, completely dazed... then I lost 6 months of memory and went into a 4' looping amnesia spell for 9 hours :notamused:
that look has a medical term: concussion. or contusion. i've had both. same look every time.
She took a wheel to the back of the head during her crash. Doesn't look like she hit her head in the initial fall, but as she slid down into the pack, one of the racers hit her square in the back of the head. I hope she is alright.
Looking again at the video, the back of her head is what snapped the bike frame! |

My first racing crash was like this. About five hours (I assume and hope you mean hours, not months) of memory loss and a looping amnesia spell. The contrast of her expression of nothingness with her heavy breathing from the race exertion is kind of scary. None of the emotion you'd normally see on the face of someone who is racing and crashing. I can see now why my teammates were worried about me.
I got the six months back when I snapped out of it, but the nine hours of amnesia is gone. All I have to remember that is the hospital bill and facial scars. |

No, every four minutes I got up and asked what bike I was riding. When they said "the Ritchey," I asking why I wasn't riding my Madone, and they had to tell me about the BB shell failure and the Fuji I had ordered. That was about 6 months. I may have lost more than that, but that's the only conversation that came up every four minutes.
