Fire your master wrench. That choice just might lose you a TT, for example.

Go read the rolling resistance charts here. The Vittoria Corsa Evo CX are one of the best performing tires that are readily available, reasonably priced, and not paper thin. I just put one on my rear wheel for the TT rig and rode it tonight. Nice.

Probably not by a whole lot...

Some swear by them. I think they ride like bricks. And their rolling resistance numbers are pretty terrible (cue German mag study...)

Edit: already cued.

This is awesome. Now I can blame the tires for my next dreadful race even though I know in my heart that the engine was lacking!

Another vote for the Vittoria Corsas here. They have good "road feel" and handling, and have been pretty bullet proof for me.

thx for the replies. it's going to be the conti gp 4000s, why? former team mate of mine who is similar in size, style, etc. as me uses them, and the guy who does both of our mechanic stuff is a conti dealer and has them in stock.

I think conti uses butyl tubes in their tubulars. I like latex for the Crr.

edit: all my tubulars are EVO CX except for one tufo that is on a backup wheel. rides like a rock.

The new Vittoria's do not have a removable valve stem so you're stuck using the less than optimum non valved extensions. Think the new Conti comps are pretty comparable for road feel and stick; I'll probably go back to those after I wear out the Vittorias. Kinda dissapointed in the valving for a race tire.

I just installed a new vittoria. it had a removable valve stem. tufo extender fit in just fine.

edit: strike that. it was new old stock. the new one with the red valve is not removable. frak.

additional research has uncovered this:

https://www.vittoria.com/index2.php?o...=472&Itemid=71

I haven't tried removing the entire valve yet but I think the process is simple enough, and then just install the tufo extender upside-down underneath the vittoria valve stem.

Super happy with my Challenge Criteriums after a RR and rainy crit last weekend on them. Still can't comment on durability, but they ride really nice.

That's the setup I have on my back wheel, works fine.

I need to replace the front tire, so I can have matching red valve stems.

+1 - I am slow at reading through this. I was going to post this as well.

The new red valves are nice. I like them. The nice thing is that you can just get the swap out valves in longer lengths to omit the need for any extender added.

Of course now that I say that Vittoria North America has not had them in stock. In that case the regular Vittoria extenders work great as well. Same as Grumpy's Tufo extender for all intents.

Thanks for the heads up. Where were you when I was gluing these up?

Oy vay.

Well, at least I can harvest some nice extenders out of these when they die.

Yep..also running the new Vittorias, and I just use the Tufo/Vittoria extenders "upside down" from normal.
