Training with weights on bike

out walking the earth
I have a good friend, and cat 1 for about 10 years, who does hill repeats with a weight vest. But not heavier bike, really. He claims the vest is to help core strength, not the make the climbing any harder on his legs.
Power is power. You can either do 300w and go 5mph up a climb with a 50 lb bike, or 300w and go 8mph up a climb with a 15 lb bike, but your body can't tell the difference. Other than the aforementioned core benefits of a weight vest, and perhaps some placebo effect of hopping on a lighter bike, I see no benefit.

Though I suppose if you do 300w and go 8mph and your hill isn't long enough than adding weight to make yourself slower will make the hill take longer to ride effectively increasing the duration of the interval. Other than this nuance logic and science has taken a back seat, mostly from the camp who has the cycling experience. What exactly is wrong with umd to get repeatedly drawn into inane arguments is beyond me. Dude, take your wife to dinner or learn meditation or something. These guys play you like a fiddle.
And 10 wheels, the role of the moderator isn't to fan the flames of argument...get a grip. I'm shocked you can't see your improvements came from big consistent training block and not based on the bike you were riding. You don't suppose Lance if off riding his touring bike right now preparing for the tour do you?
All, said, ****. You folks should all go enjoy the day. I'd be racing if I could.

I've heard so much wrongness.
1. Yes.
2. Thankyou. Spot on. Common sense prevails.
But the unfortunate thing is... Your arguing my point.
3. The sole reason you stagnate. Your still putting in the same intervals with same 15lb bike. Next time, do the same intervals under a heavier load. Can't you see, your going forward.
1. Keep developing. Keeping progressing & strengthening. 15lbs doesn't miraculously turn to 20lbs under the same speed/power.
1. Doesn't have too be the only variable. Think about it.
2. You can. But what are you doing when you push the pedals on the heavier one?.

if you have more resistance it ill take more power/effort to go the same speed, you fail at simple, basic physics.
many of your posts center on some silly concept of mind over matter, this is not what is being discussed when training and/or intervals.

i.e. you can push the pedals just as hard on a 'light' bike as you can a heavy one.

I've honestly forgotten more about training and racing than you'll ever pretend to know, so I'm not even going to dignify you quoting me by reading it. One more troll on ignore.

You miss the point. By you going off in the 41 you become a magnet for these guys to follow you around here, polluting the experience for the rest of us.

Theres a big reason why guys want lighter & lighter bikes.
You can only take advantage of technology so far...
But if you think about it, that advantage is enhanced 10-fold, training in the other direction, then resorting back to 15lbs for racing.
You will never stop learning.
No one beats the *****.

Thread closed. This thread has run its course, we have lots of bickering on here and the OP hasn't come back to it in a couple of days.
