Peta takes it.

He's proved that he's the worlds fastest sprinter. He is not the worlds most talented sprinter. Without that perfect Fasa leadout he really has trouble.

As mentioned, the sprinters field at this years Vuelta is relatively weak.

Gcasillo called it!

Laggard named the first four finishers, wrong order. Not bad.

My pick from the heart van Heeswijk finished 77th but is leading GC now. He also picked up some sprint points, I think. I also mentioned Petacchi (though mispelled and in parentheses).

Who will win tomorrow?

I'm always impressed by Petacchi's sprinting abilities. And to see him do it up close and in person just reinforces how great a sprinter he actually is.

Why was the field so slow in the start? It seemed like they took a bit of time to get their energy up.

Agreed. But he's got a nose for the finish line. If he's close, and there's room, mail it in. He's like an Eric Gagne or Dennis Eckersley in baseball. He's a damn fine closer.

Damn Spaniards with their late night dinners. The peloton was probably still digesting last night's picadillo rice.

Van Heeswijk told Lavuelta.com. "I had to stay close to Zabel so that he wouldn't take the jersey in the bonus sprints. He attacked and I went after him and passed him. The objective was to keep the leadership within the team and to defend the attacks from Zabel."

Van Heeswijk didn't contest the finishing sprint in Burgos, explaining "The final sprint was not for me or my team. My objective is to win a stage and I think that the third one could be a good opportunity.

Since I have family who live in Luxembourg, it's nice to see Benoit Joachim in second in the GC. I'd like to see him don the golden jersey to give my family something to cheer about.

Yeah, his body can do incredible sprints on flat stages in stage races. In the grand tours, where he does most of his showcase, the race on the flat stages is quite 'easy' in comparison to most other races. If the race is toughened up, his legs will get beat by another more talented sprinter.
It is no fault of his own, but I don't like him as much because he often beats other sprinters whose physiology is different to make them last better on tougher races.
