Primes, Ninja Primes, Growlers and Chasing down attacks.
Primes, Ninja Primes and "Growlers" are included in a race. What's the difference between the three?
It's a mixed 4/5 race. Is it bad form to chase an attack from a different cat rider in hopes of forming a breakaway? |
Ninja primes are only for riders who don't use lights at night. They get a special award saying "I defied the safety Nannies". Growlers are for masters only, and awarded for grumbling at their breakaway companions to take it steady on the hills. Chasing cats in a race is generally bad form, but if you see a hare by all means give chase, and you might get a greyhound award.

Growlers are jugs of beer from local brewpubs. They're the prizes for the thing, not the thing itself.
Ninja primes started as a joke because the Cat 6 guys were going off the front on non-Prime laps just for looks (originally called "photo-primes"). When they started putting on the State Fair crit they decided to make them official. Ninja primes are unannounced Primes - you don't know you've won until you've crossed the line (and the guy dressed in the ninja costume starts wailing on his electric guitar). As far as I know, there are no regular primes in that race. Take a flyer off the front. Your impatience may be rewarded... |
