Major race tomorrow - am I effed?
"Major" in the sense that it's the only out-of-town race I'm likely to get to go to this month.
Spent Fri-Sun off the bike due to family obligations (out-of-town wedding), started feeling sick after ~45 minutes on the bike Mon, spent Tue sick in bed, then my coach had me do some 5-min high cadence intervals yesterday "to see if it was out of my system." I felt okay.
I've already resigned myself to working for a teammate tomorrow, since I know my form is likely shot. It's a 45-minute cat 4 crit, technical and likely to be screamingly fast.
So... am I screwed?

We can't tell you if you're still sick or not. You're the best person to answer your own question. You said you felt okay yesterday, so that means you're going to feel okay tomorrow

no more than you would be otherwise... you won't lose all your form in 6 days, so I'd go ride and work hard for the team.
Don't be afraid to have your finish line be prior to the final race finish line.
The race my team hosts was last weekend and my form is truly gone after +/- 2months without training and very little racing... my finish line with with 1.5 laps to go, and the "finish line" was to get a teamate in a winning position.
I worked the front a bit, strung things out a bit, showed the jersey in our race, got my guy a pull to the top 6 wheels with 1.5 laps to go, and thus I consider myself to have "won" the race I was fighting for.

I have more fun when I am racing to help teammates versus racing for a result. I takes some of the pressure off, plus I like being in the front if I can get there.

What are you doing in front of the computer? Eat, sleep, sleep, wake up, eat, race.

He didn't win, but it sure as heck wasn't my fault... I felt just as worked-over as if I'd sat in and fought for 12th- but I had the satisfaction of knowing that instead of fighting for 12th my team mate had every possible advantage we could give him going into the final laps.
(and earlier in the year when I single-handedly worked the field over for him in a RR and got him solo for a win he hooked me up with part of the winnings.)

you have a major race on a friday in austin tx?
and, screamingly fast and cat 4 are oxymorons.
if you cant finish mid pack in a cat 4 45 min crit after a week off you either are still sick or you should fire your coach because you werent fit enough to begin with.

It's up in McKinney (Ft. Worth area), and like I said, it's "major" insofar as it's the only out-of-town race I'll be going to this month (probably) and it has a lot of prize money.

Hmmm yeah, thatnks for the heads-up. Don't know why I thought it was in Ft. Worth. Taking the whole day off, though, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Come by and say hello. I'll be racing the 35+ 1/2/3 and doing the color announcing for the P 1/2.
