I love him, but geez Louise!!!!! His manager even doubted him saying, "Tyler says he's OK, but that's what he said when he crashed in the Tour de France."

I hate to tell it, but Hamilton looks to be not dodgy and aggressive elbowing type enough for bigger races, where the places in the peloton are epensively sold.
He must have an enormous pain tolerance and also has the strength, but a small man like him has to be as pushy as Pantani was to fight out the respect of Magnus Backstedt types.
And also Phonak would have form a protective Phalanx around him all the time. It's also their fault.

Slightly unrelated... but lately I was wondering if part of it probably had to do with his lack of ... anything on his body. Looks like skin and bones above the waist. I would guess that this would harm his sturdyness in extreme situations (like a potential crash), and that it also makes him more succeptable to injury when he does fall.

Armstrong looks very healthy. Hamilton looks starving.
I'm sure many others look as Armstrong... I use him as an example because he has been by far the best grand tour rider in the last 5 years, and I end up seeing his upper body in commercials and such. I would bet that classics riders and sprinters have even more flesh above the waist.

Armstrong while riding the Tour is pretty gaunt though Hamilton might be even gaunter (more gaunt?). I watched a EuroSport video interview of Hamilton and he mentioned the "guns" he used to have when he was a skier. Sounded a bit wistful.

Two things I won't put on my bike carbon bars and a carbon stem. I'm still not sure about carbon cranks.

Didn't Phonak during the tour wreck or lose some people due to handel bars? Also didn't the Tour Crash for TH happen after the guy broke a hande bar in fount of him?
If a Carbon handle bar bike falls over you have to take the tape off an inspect it for cracks. With bikes as light as they are you don't need to do a face plant because of a bar. Shed the weight someplace else.
Cheers

Phonak snapped two sets of bars. Tom Boonen broke his and had a pretty nasty fall.
