This is from 25 years ago, so the course may have changed. Take it FWIW. Fitchburg is one of the most prestigious criteriums in the Northeast. The fields are full and the speeds are high with constant attacks. The course itself has a slightly uphill front stretch and downhill back stretch. Turn 4 is off camber. There are tons of primes, lots of spectators. The 1/2/Pro race will have a lot of Pros. I saw Lance Armstrong lap the field as a Junior. The best I ever did there was 2nd as a Cat3.

Bwahahah. Thanks Greg. I did it once as a Cat 4. It was an eye-opening experience. It's a super fun weekend of great racing, tho!

Well not really good comments on that blog post. I dont really know anyone going minus grumpy. No one feels like making the trip over from NY it seems. Who needs teammates anyways?

Good to know Grumpy. I mostly know the Buffalo guys and a few people who race in rocheter (ROG, RIT). Dont really know any of the Full Moon guys and gals. Also surprised that not many albany racers are there- CBRC, Anthem, Battenkill United, and the rest. Even Keltic is lightly represented!

Oh well, I will make new friends in New England!

I'm in. Travel must be tough for a lot of folks this year.

I'm going with 5 guys from Chicago, two teams. Spidermonkey Cycling (Goose Island's 312 is our title sponsor, big logo on back--hell, I look like a lanky beer bottle) & 3 guys from Burnham Racing. I'm doing the 3s, along with the Burnham guys, and one teammate is doing the 4s...actually, I hope he can finish it. According to him, he has been on the bike a dozen times in the last two months. (if that is true: goodspeed, sir!)

I just upgraded, have not been racing at all since mid may and have never done a climb more than 1k long. I have no idea what the RR will do to me...my goal is simple: finish strong.

Suffering indeed!

I'll be there.

Stories you say?...

A couple of years ago during the road race, the peleton was making its way up the feed zone climb for the last time before turning left up to the top of Mt. Wachussett, and the dude ahead of me pisses all over himself. Doesn't bother trying to whip it out or anything, just pisses right in his shorts. It sprinkled all over my ****in legs. Gross.

Took a ride over to see the Men's Masters Circuit stage.
Very windy, 2 got away on the flat section leading up to the finishing climb, not sure who won, Johnny Gold took 2nd.
The Field came in about 15 seconds back.
Grumpy was in the pack for the first several laps of today's race, but somewhere around 4 to go fell off, got caught out in the wind and today's stage was pretty much over for him.
His teammate Peter had an even worse race, problems with the rear derailleur threw his chain off the cassette into the spokes, had to hold up for neutral support and wait for a replacement bike.
He was racing a Madone with a cracked frame

Grumpy will get em tomorrow on the mountian stage.

I saw Daren from the shop later in the day, he told me you guys came in. I was glad to hear they were able to take care of your teammate's bike.
Good luck to the both of you tomorrow. Luckily you get to race early in the day before it gets too warm.

pissed. they didn't see me cross the line and gave me a DNF. no start time for tomorrow's TT. Chief Judge has not returned my call.

I crossed that friggin' line and finished this hard-ass race. How hard is it to just look at the stupid videotape?

now I have to go there early tomorrow and deal with this in person. frak.

stressed.
