Emotion rollers, looking at getting a set...

Trying to figure out if i need the resistance unit. I'm a light weight and don't produce gobs of peak power (were talking like 725w max!). i currently have rollers, but use them more for recovery/endurance riding so no resistance isn't an issue. I'm thinking for threshold/steady state stuff I'd be ok. Even Vo2 work should be good, since out on the road I'm sub 300w. The only thing that may cause problems is when I'm trying to do low cadence/muscle tension work where I need some real resistance.

I'm know a few of you guys have used these so I'm hoping for some real world experience.

oops, guess I should read all the literature. Looks like they come with resistance and the add on is a remote control. I just may be able to ditch the trainer after-all

Mine had the resistant unit built in. That was plenty.

In a thread from a month ago in the 41 it said something about getting a more aero helmet is one of the easiest ways to get faster on the bike. Not just one of the conehead helmets, but something that looks relatively similar but has a better shape. Or something. I don't know. My helmet was like $75 and looks like a mushroom on my head but it works good enough for me.

When you are tucked in for a TT its faster but so many things will negate that gain if you can't hold an aero position for the duration. For example, looking to the side for a few second or looking straight down negates that ext a 5s over 40k. For typical road riding the difference may be seconds between helmets, I don't really think it matters all that much. IMO, the best free speed on a road bike is riding in the drops.

    Saddle question:

I'm a long-time Selle Italia Flite Ti user. Team has new sponsor shop that's a Specialized dealer and I could be convinced to get a new saddle if the price and fit are right. What Spec. saddle comes closest to the fit and feel of the classic Flite? I am thinking either the Romin or Chicane. Any thoughts?

Rollers. Which ones are the quietest??

I live in an apt, with downstairs neighbor - so noise is a major issue.

Thinking some model of Kreitlers, 3" prolly. Is 2.25" that much harder?

    Thx!

    Riding them.

I think being on the nose over potholes contributed, but it's a pretty common thing. It was discussed over in the track forum and Google will bring up a bunch of threads on broken specialized saddle shells.

I love my specalized saddle. It survived a pretty nasty crash with just some scuffs but I also don't sit on the nose to often.

FWIW, I have a Prologo saddle, and it's the chit. First expensive saddle I've owned that I'd buy outright if needed (it came on my bike). They really fit me well. Prologo Nago Evo Alpha 2 or something. I had one break from a hit on the road (not enough to pinch the tire though), and they were falling over themselves to get me a new one, which has been fine for 3 years. Leather is so durable compared to anything I've ever used.

To be fair all 3? Of the saddles I broke between feb and aug of the same year got warrantied with no problem, but it's ridiculous to need to bring a spare saddle to every race because there's a good chance you'll need it.

does your seatpost clamp have a lip on it or something? I'm 175-185 and have used 2 toupes over my riding career of ~ 40k miles now.

I missed this before. Broke the shells in the middle, not the rails. I suppose it's possible that my fat ass combined with huge pot holes was driving that down into contact with the clamp somehow, but I doubt it.

Go kreitler 2.25. I love mine. I can do up to about z4/z5 intervals without spinning ungodly fast (the wattage chart is not correct on their website, they really aren't that hard)

i've broken a number of spec saddles and i'm neither big nor powerful, but I also ride on the nose a bit. They have all been replaced under warranty. FWIW, the romin evo is both more comfortable (for me) and seems to be more durable than the toupe or the standard romin.

I am going to look into this. I had a local shoe repair try to recover a Flite, but it only lasted about a month. This guy looks like he knows what he's doing.
