I'm probably not yet a racer-guy, but I switched to full fingered gloves this summer because sweaty fingers => sticky bars and slippery shift paddles. They are not less comfortable, and probably offer a tiny bit more protection in a crash as well.

OK, here's one I don't get.

I have these pedals on my bike and I'm always being told to change them. I like them and they work for me. What's the downside to them?

They are mountain bike pedals, or more accurately, they use mountain bike cleats. Most road cleats offer a larger platform and work with road shoes which are usuaully stiffer, at the expense of being less walkable. If you like them, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Because I have to start IV's, check pulses, handcuff and shoot things in my job that pays for racing. A surgeon buddy of mine just took 18 stitches to the hand on the exposed parts because he was wearing half finger gloves.

I have tri shoes (basically road shoes) that can fit either cleat. But thanks, that answers it very well

refresh me on bar tape wrapping, clockwise on the right, counterclockwise on the left --but is this from standing in front of the bike, or straddling the top-tube?

I've got a century coming up this Sunday that I'm hoping won't turn into a hammerfest; it's with a group I like riding with but it takes a bit of discipline to not hammer which they typically like doing.

doesn't really matter as long as you cover all of your bar. when i used deda (horrible tapes, btw), i used to make sure the deda logo was exposed everywhere. that problem is solved with the fizik microtape.

although it make sense to apply right hand rule on right and left hand rule on left: meaning for ccw turn on the right, the tape travels up, and for each cw turn on the left, the tape travels up.

Refuges buy a ticket for $20.00 for a raffle for a Felt tack frame:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ing-August-6th.

3 days left and they need a bunch more entries. Proceeds help send a rider to track nats.

I bring this up every time I wrap bar tape: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs7BY4wKHTM

To answer your question, from behind, start at the bottom and reverse so that you're wrapping outside-in on the top bend.

Jorge, i really liked the group, but the one guy one near clipped me while trying to sprint for 10th place when he was 200m out scared the royal s!ht out of me. i was like: dammit, i don't need this type of scare again, at least not in a non-racing situation.

Good luck on your century, are you guys headed to bear mountain?

I've been told that ankle down (horizontal foot) engages the hamstring sooner in the pedal stroke which could explain the feeling of more power during climbing.

Any big difference in stopping power between swissstops and koolstops on aluminum rims? Where's the cheapest place to get them?

Yeah I saw you mention that in another thread, I wonder if it was one of the less experienced guys because I only know a small group of them mainly the guys at the front of the pack who are racers/ex-racers. We're riding out to New Hope, PA from Newark which is about 112 miles RT or something to that effect. I'm considering joining the group because I don't want to keep latching on without being a part of it, my hesitation has been not being able to commit to going on all of their rides but one of the leaders said it wouldn't be a problem and he'd like me to join so I think I will.

The swisstop yellow pads stop "OK" on aluminum rims. I run them regularly on my TT bike and don't bother to swap when I use the aluminum brake track wheels on it. They're probably not as good as a regular pad designed for aluminum rims, such as the koolstops, though. They're softer and will wear faster, also. I'd pick the orange compound koolstops for most situations on aluminum rims.

I found that they both offer about the same stopping power, koolstops last longer and cost less. Pretty much a no brainer.

https://www.swissstop.ch/Road.aspx

I was looking at the GHP2 version of swissstops. I'm guessing they both work about as well as you need brakes to on <1" wide tires.

Edit: ninja'd by EDR, thanks both.
