They just finised doing an entire series on self massage with the foam rollers and other tools, it's all broken down into muscle groups. They've also just started a series on stretching, which will be broken down into muscle groups as well. Write ups, pictures, video, etc.

I'm in no way affliated with them, but the information is valuable.

That site is awesome, now that I finally made time to poke around it a little. Thanks for sharing it.

I also had knee pain for years because of tight ITBs. Stretching helped, Foam roller helped. But the thing that put the problem behind me 8 weeks ago was.....power cranks. Who knows if power cranks are going to make me faster, but I credit them with taking my knee pain away.

burn him...

How so?

The Tiger Tail has zero give unlike The Stick. 80% of the time this isnt an issue but when you need to go keep or target on an area the Tiger Tail works better for me.

Ah, the foam roller. JCM's song "Hurts So Good" applies to its use as well. Been having some pain in lower back after 60+ minutes of big gear...a couple of sessions with the foam roller on lower back and all is well.

agreed, I'm watching it now...wanting to pick up a foam roller on the way home to help with my desk jockey hamstrings/lower back.

Remember to stretch those hammies out. I'm made aggravatingly annoyed of the relationship because of a disc issue which acts up unforgivingly if I don't stretch my hammies out every few hours.

Went ahead and ordered an orange one. Let the pain begin.

kensuf 01-11-11 12:35 PM

he who requested the self-perma-ban used the other TP stuff.

jcpups608 01-15-11 10:55 PM

Just got the Grid and the ball today- WOW!

Didn't realize how effed up my hamstrings were until working on them with the roller. Jeez.

Oh, and I'll reiterate that the Athletes Treating Athletes site is a great resource.

ridethecliche 01-15-11 11:08 PM

I'd been having upper back weirdness/spasms/tingling for a couple of weeks. Finally decided to foam roll it out the other day. Hurt a bit, but it's been 3 days and I haven't even had so much as an itch!

jcpups608 01-26-11 03:17 AM

So do people feel that warming up before using the roller is important? Like with stretching? I'd guess the answer would be that it isn't, seeing that a lot folks use them before bed.

I've found that stretching after a workout while my muscles are still "warm" gives me more benefit than stretching cold. I'm just curious if the same would apply to the roller.

VT Biker 01-26-11 03:25 AM

When is the obligatory "Show us your foam rollers" thread going to be posted?

I like to use the roller after a ride when I'm warm, so yeah.
