I use the foam roller after every ride, that way I'm nice and warm and the muscles need a stretch! Since I've been using it, it not only cured problems I had at the time, but I haven't had any since. I used to get a different leg/knee problem every few weeks. I may try one of the other ones in this thread now that mine is getting a bit soft.

Tony Horten (P90X) has gotten into using the foam roller. P90X2 uses it extensively in warm up and cool downs. There's also a recovery and mobility workout (60 minutes) that's really quite good.

I'm not a big fan of p90x. Haven't seen x2, but if it's like teh first one it's way too long on isolation exercises for my taste. I thought the core synergistics one was pretty good, but other than that i didn't like them.

Just a regular cheap one, or is he going for a trigger point? I swear that one is friggin' gold.

My high density red foam roller (the basic spongy type material) has gotten all soft and mushy. Recommendations for a new and/or better one????

EDR (remember him?) turned me onto these before he split this place. After 18 months of pretty solid use, it's still going strong.

I know this is a bit off topic, this being THE Foam Roller Thread and all, but do any of you use those sticks? I like my roller for my IT, quads and hammys, but I feel the stick would work better on the calves, and more specific spots.

I had one and sold it. I didn't think it worked that well and was kinda hard to maneuver.

I love the grid (used it last night and tonight), and when I want to induce tears, I break out the Trigger Point roller.

I use the grid a lot, pre and post workout but also use the other rollers (footballer and quadballer) for more pinpointed stretching/massaging. When I was at Interbike I talked to the TP people and told them about issues I was having with forefoot pain. They recommended this exercise
with the footballer
to stretch the soleus and it's helped a lot. However I also have very poor dorsiflexion. As for the inner thigh somebody mentioned...I saw a picture where they were using the quadballer for that (I can't find it now) although I don't personally do that exercise and will now give it a try, I hit virtually every other muscle in the legs, glutes, and lower back.

I recently got this gizmo from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C8LMAK
I'm still getting used to it, but it's great for working out individual muscles / vertebrae, slowly, one at a time.

No, I'm old enough to predate such silly things. I usually grow some sort of facial hair over the winter. I kept a long scraggly goatee last year until it started to warm up.

Earlier this week a woman in my office asked me if I grew my beard for Movember. I gave her a blank stare and said, "No." I don't think she believed me.
