First Race / Win of the Year!

This is actually my first win of all time. But the race was just a 3.5mile climb, 1200ft gain average grade 7%-8%. Raced in Juniors with about 8 starters? So It isn't really a legit win, but I did come first out of the 8 or so starters.

This win did mean a lot to me since 1) I wanted to win it last year 2) I wanted to win it as a Junior (this is my last year) and 3) This is the mountain that got me in cycling and racing.

Happy New Years!

Nice job on the race and the blog post! Unfortunately, the equivalent "race" for me is the MS 150 charity ride and I am not allowed to race it per BF rules.

Great job Dom. Fingers crossed for a strong 2011 for you. As for me, based on today, I'm still in "build"

Awesome. Stop playing it down though: You crossed the line first. That's a legitimate win.

Congrats!!!! So much fun to read race reports that end in a win!!!!

It is hard to start a season with a win, so kudos to you on good off-season training. I am going to use you as my inspiration, since my first race of the year (in 3months and I am already freaking out!) is a big target race for me.

Live it. Love it. Own it.

It was a goal and it ended with a win.

What's next?

Why would you have your 1st race after ~6 months off be a target race?

Because the course is awesome, the event is amazingly well-run, everyone who is anyone in our area comes out to race, and I did well last year with way less experience. Almost everyone who is competing at that event will just be starting their season, so it is really a test of off-season training. If I can manage to come into form using the computrainer and spring training camp, I am confident that I can place well.. . .I should rephrase that, it's bike racing, anything can happen, but if I work hard, I should be able to achieve the fitness required to place well. . .

now one problem with my strategy of an early peak is that I may find that I establish myself as a threat early in the season and end up racing the next 6 months with a target on my back, but it is a risk I am willing to take. In fact, it could add an interesting dynamic/caveat to the season! ...yes, I know I am getting way ahead of myself. . .
