"Pended" races on USAC site

On the USAC list of races, it lists races as being Permitted, Permit In Process, and Pended. Obviously, a permitted race is fully approved, and moving forward, but what's the significance of the other two categories?

Does Pended mean there's a problem with the race and they're working on it? Permit in Process, mean the permit will go forward but they're squaring up clerical issues?

When a promoter files a permit online, the regional rep has to approve it. Then paperwork gets sent to the promoter (or maybe I download the thing, I forget, I should check), the promoter signs it, and sends a physical copy back. Once the paper work is sent back you're good (as the promoter).

When you first file a permit you have to have a flyer. Problem is that the flyer can't have the permit number because it's pending, plus, unless you started and stopped a permit app, you don't know the pending permit number (year-number, like 2011-281). So initial flyers are listed as "permit pending". This is the status of a race that is not through with its permit process.

Later the flyer has to be updated, but for example I can't upload an updated flyer to a permit that's been approved (because I could upload a flyer that wouldn't be approved). So I have to ask someone at USAC to replace the flyer that says "permit pending" to one that says "2011-281" or whatever. I think if I change something on my permit then it'll be listed as pended.

In my brain haze I uploaded .docx file instead of pdf files. My permits got approved so now I have to ask USAC to replace the docx files with the pdfs. I realized this when I went to look at my flyers and I couldn't open them on our slightly older machines here at work.

I'm not an official nor do I know the workings of USAC, I'm just a promoter/racer.

I do. It took me a little bit to put that together, but I finally figured that out.

Thank you actually. I went back to my permits and now there's an option to print out the permit contract to sign and mail. That I just did, now I need to mail them out.

USAC is not bad when it comes to customer service for promoters, at least not in my experience. I've had nothing but incredible amounts of help when dealing with them. Very nice folks, our inside rep out in CO and the NE-BRA local association rep in MA. In fact I just screwed up the date on the first permit (a MONDAY race???) and now I need to upload pdf flyers.

the permit contract has been downloadable for at least the past 5 years (since I've been promoting races). I usually don't even snail mail them-- usually it's just sign, scan, and email the scanned copy. It makes the process faster, and it's easier to track things down when you call them.
