It is kinda pricey, but where I get it from sells a 3lb bag (that's 50% protein) for $30, which would last me for several months, so I don't think of it as prohibitively expensive, even when compared to other supplements.

i think if you want to take protein supplement go for it. i dont think you are going to be getting drug laced soy or whey protein. i still wonder why not just eat more real food. small portions and endurance athlete don't go that well together.

i can't speak for Mr. Hodeo, but for me, eating has been broken into two distinctly different categories: Pleasure and Fuel. If I want something that tastes good, I'm going to eat a cupcake or a bacon cheeseburger. Most of the time, I want fuel. Much easier than the preparation, time, effort and $ of making eggs, fish, or "lean meats", is to just down a scoop of protein powder and a bowl of cereal or oatmeal. The oatmeal covers the carbs, the powder covers the protein, and the fats take care of themselves.

I agree but I would say 1g per lean body weight. Look at getting your protein from websites rather than GNC and you'll find good prices especially if bought in bulk. There are different types of whey blends but I've had good results with a whey isolate when I was lifting hard, and should have low carb/sugar per serving. I would also recommend a casin protein (or eat lots of cottage cheese) which is slow digesting and that would be good to take before bed.

I've been using creatine for about 6 weeks now and I can't say I've noticed much difference in sprint power. But then, it never gets easier, you just get faster, right? As far as weight goes, I've gained about 3 pounds, but it's hard to say if that's just from the creatine though because I also started eating a lot more after and between rides.

I will say this though, in the recent past I've had issues with slow recovery. I used to feel like I could only go 1 day on, 1 day off. Two things that I feel have really improved my recovery time are hyper-hydration (about a gallon of liquids per day, mostly water) and really ramping up my intake of carbohydrates and, to a lesser extent, protein. I've been less tired in the past two weeks as I have kept the amount of time I sleep the same, but started increasing my food intake.

Oh, and avoid NO products in cycling. Probably in general too. That stuff is weird.

GNC sucks. Also, if you want a good protein, get Whey Protein Isolate. Stick with the better brands. An average multi vitamin is alright, but make sure there isn't a bunch of other crap like saw palmetto or other herbs your don't need. Just a good vitamin/mineral is all you need if you aren't eating and getting it through diet.

Most supplements are garbage and a waste of money.

Also..you might want to rest sometime and watch overtraining. As you get older, it takes longer to recovery generally unless you are some genetic freak like Armstrong, Hincapie and a few others.

Most of my diet is nutrition bars, organic with higher protein clean carbs/healthy fats in general, there are several good brands out there. That and some chocolate lactaid milk with a good protein powder after working out for recovery and extra protein.
