Be sure and let us know when that happens. Wait, is it happening now, what with all of the talk of Olive Garden?

Nope - I'm friggin' old, and I knew what you meant...though I remember when buying a bellows attachment was the hot setup for your Nikon F, and I had fun with view cameras.

Might need to add a bellow and some extenders given the size of the subject

no....we got it...the silence was from us not knowing what to say to your wanting to take the photo of rkwaki's junk but for the fact that you did not have a macro lens. ;-)

I'm new here so I don't want to mention how up close you have to be to use a macro lens. Just sayin.

THat was a cluster **** if I have ever seen one.
First off were they racing in the projects? Clean up the road. I would not have raced on that crap.
Second, what was that dude in the Cannondale skinsuit doing? If you are going to sit up get out of the way.
Third there was a pretty big guy (black guy not on Rahsaan's team) that was also sitting up and Justin came flying by, what the hell was that guy doing sitting up? Looked like he was out for a Sunday Z1 ride

If I was Rahsaan or Justin I'd be super pissed at that whole situation...

^ I didn't get the guy on the hoods either. On the other hand it looks like he read the crash happening and eased to give himself room.

The guy flying by didn't see what was coming and obviously entered the picture way too fast to avoid stuff. It looks like he tried to bunny hop his way over.

I was a bit surprised to see the sand/debris on the road. At the same time I always think about Bethel and we couldn't clear everything last week, or even the weeks prior. Okay, it was in the 20s overnight and stuff froze but still, we couldn't clean it all up. In SoCal… a leaf blower would go a long way. Okay a shovel for that section of road.

Just seems like such a strange crash...
Had to tell the entire scope of the wreck but hope that everyone is ok.

The course location is practically in the projects(very close to Compton haha). When I was doing my warmup outside, it was definitely a bit sketch. That said, the course wasn't too bad. Later in the day the crosswinds were strong so they were riding way closer to the curb than our field(cat4).

The guy who flew to the right of Bahati apparently ate it pretty good.

I think you're maybe misreading people bracing themselves for impact as a sign of sitting up. I think the crash just happened a few seconds before the vid starts and everyone is looking for a way out. That's my guess.

Cat 3 - Tour de Murrieta Grand Prix (all laps). It's extended because I included the gap between the break and the field.

I wouldn't say that course is in the projects. It's an industrial park in Long Beach. The freeway is just to the right on the video which is why that side of the course tends to be dirty. There is a prevailing wind that 99% of the time forces riders to the other side (inside) of the course. It's extremely unusual for them to be riding on that side. For that reason I can't blame the promoter too much because in normal circumstances it's not an issue.

The guy sitting up is Charon Smith who is one of the most respected Masters racers in SoCal at the moment. He's sitting up calmly because he saw/anticipated the crash before the others did. You can't really blame him for being more aware of the situation.

The crash was initiated by the rider in front of Rahsaan who flatted and lost control.

I was thinking it was Charon and after having watched the video a few times I realized that there was something going on in addition to what Rahsaan's video captures. Perhaps I need to go back and edit my initial response.
And you are correct he is very well respected not only there but around the country.

Thanks for the info: I was watching at turn #4 when the pack came through splintered all over. Race over for most. Curious what caused it. Junior (following behind so in no danger) seemed to think it was the rocks. I suppose they could have caused the flat, but, knowing the riders' handling skills, I wouldn't think twice about those guys going through some rough pavement/dirt/rocks.

Can't tell you how many times I've raced (and used to train) on that course, including the two races I did that day in the morning. The prevailing wind almost always has you on the other side of the road and the road is two (wide) lanes so there is a lot of room for staying off of that crap. That said, I've never noticed that much stuff on that side of the road and I didn't notice it on Sunday because our race had normal wind conditions so were on the far right (where the sprinklers were that turned on in the middle of the race).

It would have been nice for the sponsoring club to have made an effort to clean up the road a bit. I know that our club has done as much when we promoted races on that course and on other courses.

Actually, it's north Long Beach not Compton, though some (not me) will say there's no difference. The course itself is around a parcel of land in an industrial park. No one has ever bought and developed that land. There are businesses on the outside of the course but the industrial park is isolated in the corner of an intersection of two major freeways. It's not the best part of town but a bunch of people go there on Thursday nights for crit training.

I'll be there this Thursday actually.

Still I wont sugar coat it and say that this city is nice just cause its "long beach". It's not right smack in the ghetto but its definitely no bel air
