Here's the bacpac + external battery using the vented case back piece. The velcro is just to prevent slippage. I recommend the industrial strength velcro. It still comes off the plastic with some effort, leaves no residue and holds much better than the basic velcro does.
There's still a chance the cable could work loose from vibration so in that case you can use rubber bands to help keep the connector to the case or battery like this.
If you don't use the bacpac then you would have to cut a hole in the front piece of the case as a last resort. It'll never go under water again and cases are like $50.
Instead, I've been using the Gopro Frames. The lens is unprotected so taking a bit of a chance so not good for all rides. I hope that helps.

I keep my gopro in a drawer out of the sun or anything that could hurt it. I also only use it for races. I shoot at 720p 30fps, not 60. I don't keep the files after I upload to youtube, so 60 is redundant. And I don't know how much it matters but I use the open case, not the waterproof one. It helps to dissipate heat from the battery, though I don't know by how much

Crash from one of my races yesterday. I'm off frame to the left, the guy in the blue kit puts me into the curb but we both stay up.

Lately I've been watching crashes to see if the person going down could have prevented it. Here it looks like there really isn't anything the guy could do; looks like the guy on the right had a close call (or was just tunneling) panicked and just went right without paying attention.

This is the highlights of the race. I'll have a full video up at some point. I had a good spot going into the final 500 meters and then disaster. At the exact moment that a rider brushes past me and I glance to my left, a guy goes over the handlebars in front of me, by the time my glance to the left is over, there's a bike right in front of me on the ground. I didn't even know how it got there til I watched the video.

I guess the lesson is to keep your head looking straight. I know that lesson but it's hard not to instinctively glance over when another rider is brushing up against you (specially when he's passing you and it's a friction kind of brushing and not just a side to side bounce) and in this case, it happened at a critical moment.

Sounds good. Maybe mount the battery under the stem. GL

also, collin would probably save himself about 50w if he spent half as much time cleaning his bike as he does editing helmet cam videos.

You have a fast sweeping right hand were people are sprinting out of the corner to get position, then people on the hill into the wind basically hit a wall and don't want to do any work so everyone compresses and shenanigans start.

That crash on the fast bit, earlier on, seemed really weird. Front wheel locked up or lost a ton of spokes? I wonder if he didn't unclip if he'd have moved around less before hitting the deck.
The final sprint crash was tough. I didn't even see how the guy hit the deck, forget about the whole reaction thing if it happened in front of me.
I'm surprised at how closely some guys pass, like why cut in so early. If the speed differential was significant I can understand but it wasn't so I don't get it.
One thing is that you want to wait for your sprint and then do your sprint. Sit on wheels, give yourself a lane to pass (by being to one side far enough that you can pass simply by moving to the side another 6-12 inches), and then wait until it's time. If you give yourself a lane to pass then you can pass if your mark blows up or gets boxed in. Find another wheel, repeat. Your lane should be on the side you think best, either protected side (wide road or the field is on the wind side) or even the wind side (if the protected side is jammed up against the curb). It's hard to do but that's what it comes down to, at least for a field sprint.
For me, once I'm not in the top whatever places like 20 or so, if it's a messy sprint then I just sit up. I'm going to blast by 10-15 guys or I'm not, and if I'm not then it's not worth it. To sprint and merely hold position isn't worth it for me unless I'm super far out in front, like leading out the sprint or similar, in which case I'll fight to the line if I can. I've led out sprints and sat up because of cramps or whatever. I've also gone into sprints sitting like 20th but I know I have a massive sprint in my legs so I go and do a massive sprint.

Big improvement from my last race, but there's still a lot of work to be done. First time I ever led a race, but some of it was probably others refusal to take a pull. Still now I know how futile it is to try to ride a pack off your wheel.

Race at PIR from a week and a half ago where I placed 2nd, gives a nice view of the course we get twice a week here in Portland. I flash by the video a couple times early, then the break starts just as I pass David and his Fly6 before the 6 minute mark, I am wearing a black veloforma kit with green and red stripes on the front of my shorts. David who's bike the Fly6 is attached to bridges up to us just before the 7 minute mark. I almost get dropped in the crosswind after an attack at 9min and chase back on in the tailwind following David the whole time and getting some camera time. It looks like I am totally going to be dropped, but I don't remember ever feeling that much in trouble. Funny how that happens, glad I stayed on his wheel.
David makes a go for the win at the 11 minute mark. Tim, who won the race, bridges up to him while I pull the break to both to keep things together. I start my sprint from just in front of David, and out of sight just after the 12 minute mark while David takes the more risky, but wind protected wall side. David ended up 4th.
Was a fun race, and nice to have someone video it, and even better that it was someone who I spent a lot of time drafting.

All you need for crashes to happen are nervous and/or inattentive riders and a large group. The width of the road has almost nothing to do with it.

Spoiler Alert: So what is up with Martin. Sucky way to end any race, much less a classic.
