not sure. don't know if there was any wind. towards the end though, I noticed the right side had a lot more room, and we were getting pushed out on the left, so there might have been a small wind from the right side.
I moved up using the centerline. I think it worked because most people didn't want to ride on the centerline out of fear the might get DQ'd. I did it because there was no other way of moving up.

I think your moving up was so calm/relaxed that everyone allowed it. If you'd been zig zagging back and forth you'd probably have gotten DQed. But you were at the limits, you rode steadily, and no one said boo. If one rider in front of you had moved over just a few inches you'd have been boxed in. This is why riders won't try too hard to move up on the yellow line - it takes one guy that knows to sit basically on the yellow and no one can legally move up.
Overall I can't see much where you could improve. I mean, okay, you could have moved right a few feet in the sprint to get on that one guy's wheel, instead of sitting in the wind, but if you thought the line was right there then no reason to do so.
I can't tell your position on the bike etc so it's hard to see if there were other things you could have done.

That's pretty bad-ass! I wish I started racing that early. How long have they been riding? And many hours do train weekly?

Not a race - sorry, but off season Pro Tour rider Cameron Wulf (2nd over) lit it up.

Video of last lap and a half of Oakland Grand Prix. The guy in the front at the beginning of the video is @aaronmcd.
The last was lost at that 180 turn. I didn't have any jump left, and lost places in it and out of it. After that I just couldn't move up. Ironically I think I had enough power to pass @aaronmcd on a climb leading in to final lap.
Video has some comments.

Yeah I was at the front until the downhill after the u turn. Riding fairly easy, but just hard enough to not get completely swarmed and everyong was content until Michael took off out of corner 2. Thats me at the far left at the finish, barely able to squeeze through.

I was just happy to finish without crashing. Specially after the guy at 2:10 decided to put his RD in to my front wheel.

Hi all
I got a new Shimano camera and have been recording some rides. Here is a local Cat 5 I entered. I'm still trying to figure racing out but they are a blast. The first vid is mine and the other is one of the guys in the breakaway. Kind of cool to get the two perspectives.

The guy in the red is really lucky he didn't cause a big crash when he switched left way too far and way too quickly. You followed him well though, very nice, smooth.
I don't know the camera's set up etc but I'd try some RainX on the lens to see if the water beads off better.

With the riders at the front hugging the right curb it would seem like the wind was from the left (so the right side is shelter). However it didn't seem massively windy when you moved up so I wondered if they were staying right "just because".

Como Street is a Sunday AM ride in Orange County CA that has been going on since about 1968. Every year the first week of December is Rogers Cup (there is a cup) and they honor fallen (killed) cyclists with silence, words of tribute and a prayer - and then race.
It is not a USAC event, but many racers show up to this ride. To win you must - start where the group where the words of tribute are spoken and obey stop lights (seems right on red is fine).https://vimeo.com/102288354

When did you do it?
I started riding when it was at Harvard and Warner with Phil, Simo in something like 82. I was early 20s and brought Rolling Rock for after the rides and peanut eating. I now
ride Tues and Thursday AM - sometimes with John Watkins who was doing it earlier 70s and killing it in the 80s and we have a lady who sometime rides who was doing it in 68. The debate still goes on if the street name "Como" really existed or not. John says it didn't.

I rode it in 2010-2011 when I lived in Laguna Beach. It was one of my first race oriented group rides.

First of three videos from the Tues Night races, focusing on teamwork. This was the first week where the team managed to work together and actually got a place. Although we thought Aaron and Nick got 2nd and 3rd, the officials said other people lapped us as well (I looked but didn't see anyone else lap us, just the three teammates). Anyway officially Heavy D won, Aaron and Nick weren't placed.
