A guy down the hall asked me today if I own a chain tool. He bought a new DuraAce chain for his bike and wants to install it. I'll probably bring him a KMC Missing Link so that he doesn't have to deal with the idiotic Shimano pin for rejoining.

Next I have a fit question. Lately my calves are killing me, it seems that through my pedal stroke I am putting more emphasis on the calves therefore wearing them out more quickly. Question is, saddle too high or too low? Thoughts?

Could be either. I know that any time my saddle position changes I get all sorts of weird pains. (It's hell getting old.)

Family vacation cut short. Youngest managed to pick up what my oldest had two weeks ago. Fever, throwing up, and sounding like she has a mouth full of marbles. Wife got pink eye, probably from the same virus. I ran up some stone steps and stubbed three toes hard. one nail is already black and the toe hurt as bad last night as anything has ever hurt post surgery. May be broken, but feels much better today.

On the plus side I thought I left my bibs at home. On the drive I checked for a local shop, found one close by that was hosting a ride yesterday AM and then opening for an hour post ride. Did have one pair of bibs in my bag, got up and did the ride. Went in to the shop and the owner said "everything is deeply discounted for you guys who did the ride." I joked about how that couldn't apply to the 303s sitting on a rack. Nope, same discount. Score.

Conundrum: Zipps have Zipp hubs. My Psimet tubulars have Alchemy hubs. The 303s are very fat. All my other wheels are skinny. Do I send the 303s to our favorite wheel builder along with the alchemy hubs, swap them out and then have the Zipp hubs built up on Velocity A23s or something similar**********

The 303s with 25c tires roll soooo smoothly btw.

Track races. I won one of them. It was only against 2 other people. Still my first ever win, so I'll take it.

I only ever heard the name - he raced in a different league than me. I had to ask someone on FB what he meant about Dave Jordan. I didn't know he started CRCA. RIP.

I don't think that's true, since he's our age and CRCA was going when I was racing BMX as a kid, but he did a lot an road on the national team in international races.

Just saw a picture of Durso, Jordan, Koschara, and Hartwell.

uh, Durso is the best masters racer in NJ, if not the best racer in the whole state, and Erv sounds like he's training to kick some ass again. There was some mighty talent there. More than anything Dave was a nice guy.

A couple of years ago, my buddy and I drove out to the mountains for a training ride. As we are getting changed, he looks at me, "Uh, do you have a second pair of bibs. I apparently left mine at home."

It was a Sunday morning in a very small town. He starts looking up bike shops in the area on his phone. I suggest we go to the K-Mart we passed on the way in and buy him some boxer briefs. "You can wear two or three pair with a lot of chamois butter," - he didn't find that funny.

We get to the shop, and as expected, it's closed. But, we see a light on in the back and a car out front, so we knock on the door. The owner just happened to be there doing his month end accounting reports. He lets us in and has two pair of bibs in the shop. My buddy buys one. I don't think he got any discount, but it saved our ride.

The Century Road Club Association was founded in 1898. The club’s history tells much about the history of cycling in the United States. This section will try to tell that story by presenting many original documents, photos and articles.

Sad news. He was a really nice guy, and a big part of the racing scene in NYC. He coached my team for two years (including when I was just starting out) and taught me a lot about bike racing.

That makes sense about CRCA. It was in a nyvelocity article/interview with him from a while back. My bad, I misread.
https://nyvelocity.com/content/interv...06/dave-jordan

"Different league" referred to the fact that I rarely if ever raced against him. He was a lot better than me.
