It has nothing to do with winning a easier race for me. I only have 7 races in. My point was I've been cycling all of 5 months I just don't think. Strong enough to rac cat4. Sometimes I feel like I don't belong there so that weights in on my decision to upgrade. If I had been racing a year it might be different story. I just don't now if I belong inthe middle of more experienced riders. I don't seem to b strong on my own yet. Iwas just stating a fact at the beginning of rid post that it may b beneficial to stay cat 5 till end of year and gaining more experience then rushing into 4s where I can't help th team and probally hurt my mind set knowing I don't belong with those guys after only 5 months on a bike. It was never about anything else. Though a race is a race and I feel if I had a chance to compete and be able to go for a high finish at states even if it is cat 5 why not. Its not like I have 20 races in. I have 7

Of course a case could be made that you feel, by poking gentle fun at Cat 5's, people are being helpful by hardening your emotional state and thickening your skin for the point in time when, during a crit, a 200lb ex football player threatens to run you into a tree if you keep taking that particular line, or you find yourself on the ground after having left a streak of ectodermal tissue combined with brightly hued lycra on the pavement.
Or we're a bunch of hard asses. At least some of us, some of the time.
In either case it would appear that you've had some positive interaction and have taken away things of value. Following this with a threat to discontinue posting because of some emotional discomfort would constitute, and you'll forgive the phrase, "a total Cat 5 move"
It would help to think of it as a fraternity hazing, an entree to the club so to speak. At some point, should you stick it out, you'll wake up with road rash stuck to the sheets, a motel bathroom filled with bloody towels and several bottles of "pain killer" on the nightstand; your next move will be to contemplate if you should just cut it back today to the 35+ race or do the P1/2, in either case you're going to get your ass handed to you and you'll be lucky to finish and not get pulled.
Then this will all make sense.
BTW...don't tell ANYONE this....but we've all been Cat 5's.
I'll leave you with this bit of advice:

I just noticed the poll results. One person says to stay a 5. I got a Cleveland that says the person that voted for that is a 4 who doesn't want to get knocked down a notch in the standings.
I got a Franklin that says they aren't even in John's district.

In this case he can either alter his opinion of cat 5 racers/racing, a group which he belongs, or he can choose to alter his opinion of the forum members. In the first case he would be left thinking that the people here are helpful and the pride stemming from his current racing experience would be diminished. In the second case he can retain his pride and put the blame on external factors (the forum d-heads). From a psychological health standpoint his subconscious made the right decision; and let's face it we can be a bunch of pricks.

The subconscious will attempt to relieve this discomfort by altering one of the conflicting ideas.

Them's some cheap tents. Wasn't RTC looking for a tent? Maybe he should contact Ted. Or maybe Sven. He's got to have an extra tent laying around.

If you die a Cat 4 they carve CAT IV on your tombstone. So I have that to look forward to.
