My first race since I got back on the bike.

I did my first race today since I got back on the bike about a year ago. It was the WV state time trial championship. Unfortunately I had to race cat 5 since I didn't renew my license this year, their rule, defiitely not mine. If I had my choice I would race cat 6.

The course was 15.2 miles, out and back course with a 5 mph(ish) cross wind. All in all I am pretty happy with my time. I still have a sinus infection that is making it tough for me to breath, my second day on the time trial bike, and I'm still fat and as aero as a brick. Certainly not making excuses, just noting what is going on.

15.18 miles
38:24 (minutes:seconds)
271 feet elevation gain
23.8 avg moving speed
291 watts avg (296 watts on WKO+)
311 nom watts
753 max watts
95 avg cadence
671 kilojoules

Acutally they were rolling around on the ground laughing at the fat humpty dumpty looking guy on a time trial bike with a dunce cap on his head. What really sucks for the cat 5's is the guy that won, he is a bigger sandbagger than I could be if I tried. In the past two years he has done 23 races with 16 podiums, five of those podiums he was on the top step.

Anyway, he beat second place by three minutes or so, I was about 15 seconds behind second place. I e-mailed the race promoter today asking if he would like my medal back, I explained that I raced cat 5 because of their rules but I am not sure if I should keep the medal and I would be more than happy to return it.

We had a guy like that in my old district. Rarely did mass starts. At some TT events he'd ride the Master's and the Cat 5 and win both.

I was in your position when I started racing track. I had to race as a 4...I kept asking to upgrade and kept getting denied, even though I won all but one event I had entered.

I finally found a bit in the rulebook that allowed me to move up to Cat2 because of my road Category. The ding-a-ling who did upgrades fought me on it, but the USAC rep told him to make the change.

This guy has done 8 or 9 mass starts, the rest tt's. I don't know but have to wonder if he as avoided doing the one or two more mass starts to keep from having to upgrade. Something tells me that there isn't a rep out there that would deny his upgrade if they looked at his record though. Oh well, doesn't affect me one way or the other.

In December I plan to renew my license as a cat 3, that way I will have my license when/if I race next year and I can get dropped like a rock.

For LowCel: Awesome. If you remember, I told you that you could do it. (And throw the stick - your dog is waiting.)

As for the Cat 5 sandbagger, at least he isn't getting rich sandbagging Cat 5.
