So I plan on racing in Wisconsin this year. I was gonna do the (TOAD) but due to family obligations I'll be racing almost every event at Superweek. What is the difference in the 2 races and are they competing against one another. I am curious because looking over last years results It looks like (TOAD) has more than double the racers for the 4/5 races then ICC Superweek everyday of the race. Do racers up there not like superweek? I was just trying to figure out why such a lack of participation at superweek compared to (TOAD).

It's hard to explain. Superweek has gotten a bad rap (for, in my opinion, not much of a good reason). TOAD has come on strong... and actually took some of the Superweek races.

One of the reasons you see better fields in the lower cats at TOAD is because it's A LOT easier to race the entire series. It's a lot more centralized. Superweek starts on the south side of Chicago, and makes it's way up to north of Milwaukee. Because of this, the last few years have seen a "split" in both rider base as well as some of the categories raced in the first week as opposed to the later races.

The reality is that the racing around here is insane from about June 1 until the end of Elk Grove (Downers Grove, RIP). If you are in the area during Superweek and it's not your cup of tea, it looks like there are some other races in the works, too.

i dont know the history of Superweek, i just know i have enjoyed the two years i raced it. from my perspective it was well run, on time, nice courses, & staffed with friendly AND enthusiastic people. it is spread out though and only barely made it to any WI races (Kenosha). never done TOAD, but want to this year. later.

I've done several stages from both. They are both pretty nice series, but I have a preference for TOAD for a couple of reasons. TOAD is always on time. Superweek is not. I have seen some questionable superweek courses, like a crit on an unfinished road with a 1" lip on the gutters.

My personal experience with both series is positive overall though.

Its really odd that TOAD has opened up registration and Superweek has not. yet Superweek starts right after Dairyland. They don't even have a full schedule out yet and when I check wisconsin cycling page it doesnt even list Superweek on their schedule but lists Dairyland. Is superweek dying out? Is there a chance it might not even happen? I seen that Diaryland has a 20% discount if you preregister for the whole thing by may. Superweek doesnt have that either. I'm not real thrilled on crit racing as you can read in other posts but I'm in town for 3 weeks and planned on doing all 17 days. Kinda worried maybe superweek is having problems.

this is not odd for SW at all. there schedule is never set, until the races are actually over. all indications from the SW promoters is that the race will happen. The dates are set, they just need to fill those. later.

You know, just because a race is going on, and it's nearby, doesn't mean you actually have to race it. Especially if it's a crit and your heart isn't in racing crits.

This is not your job.

Refering to SuperWeek my teammate? You are right my heart isnt into crit racing. But its hard to find a multi day event like this especially when I'm gonna be in town. I just want to see with the help of J. wright and others if I can prepare my body to race 17 days straight and actually compete. it will be a good workout to prepare for Nocatee weekend. You are telling the truth though I dont like crits. But where can you find a multi day road race? I dont know

Sw schedule is never accurate. Geneva is still on that list. I believe they still have Evanston on there as well? Sw usually works out and they have stepped up their game in the last few years, but you're not going to see their schedule until it gets REaLLY close. An accurate schedule that is. Sw races won't fill up unless it's one of the large weekend venues. Register that day.

I am still kicking around what I am doing this year. I will have the ability to be around both. We'll see.

Trial by fire. SW is laid back racing. Especially after the first couple of days. Believe it or not it's a good way to start crit racing. The weekend races....not so much. ToAD is well run. If I am there then seek me out and I'll be in the same race. This is prim crit racing though....if the though of going into corners shoulder to shoulder with 50 slabs of prime grade A chicago beef intimidates you ....then go ride in the countryside.

I am actually excited about racing 17 days and am just starting to get into intervals to prepare to race for 17 days. I have raced close to 20 races this year already but have held off intervals for the soul purpose of not getting into real good shape till right before superweek. I am also excited that another top 10 in a road race this week has put me one top 10 away from getting my upgrade to 3 in only 4 months of being a 4 even though I will not upgrade till after the State Road race.

I am eye balling Ocala Kensuf as it is right up my alley as to the type of racing i love hilly road races. The only thing I see is its gonna be right at the end of my hard 2 months of intervals so How much energy i have during is still to be determined.

Ocala is awesome. I have no idea how they make money with this race with two road races in the weekend. You actually need to do this to show local support for such a local awesome racing weekend.

I'm debating whether or not to race Cat or Masters that weekend. With road races it is too hard to double up so I need to decide soon.

And it isn't that hilly. Nothing on either day requires the little ring. Over the years I have ridden all of those roads hundreds of times.

Yeah Having 2 consecutive days of road racing is a dream. I dont want to deviate from what workouts i have planned as I would like to do great at superweek even though crits are my cup of tea. I am all for showing some local support/love for such a great event. Anything that has 2 road races is awesome. The only other thing that my get in the way is it being on Fathers day weekend. I may have to work one of those. I guarantee Ill be in at least 1 race there though. Why do you think they have problems making money? because there is no crits? Or is it just not a big turnout?

RR's require a lot of police manned corners and have no local businesses or city recreational funding that kick in to make it cheaper. As a racer I always feel like I'm getting a deal with a road races as compared to crits. And in Flori-DUH they cost the same.

And road races are much more awesome than crits. It is like a novel instead of a short poem. Both are great, but I prefer the novel.

I can think of lots of words that rhyme with "crit" suitable for a Limerick in that they would not pass the BF nanny filter. It is like shooting fish in a barrel.
