There is no left side/right side problem if you race at the same velodrome every week.
Top Bond Mist Premium Pallet Adhesive is spray adhesive made for screen printing. It isn't supposed to leave residue, but it can if you don't let it dry before applying the number or if you leave the number on for too long after the race.
I've used it with mixed results. You have to spray a fair amount on on the number, let it dry for 15 minutes, then stick it on so that it lays flat while in your racing position. When you get it right, it works really well.

I stretch my jersey over my steering wheel and have no problem putting pins in. That method usually results in a near perfect pin placement, and I don't have to worry about my wife "accidentally" stabbing me with a pin.

I'd never thought about it until one of my teammates showed me his jersey after a race. I'm not sure how he pinned the number on, but since then I've used the adhesive along with 6 pins. Nothing like turning a $30 race into a $90 one.

Already destroyed a jersey, shorts and helmet, thanks. Even put it in the RR. I'm a 4 after this weekend, not that it's going to change much. For some reason, as a 5 I still need a race number on my jersey.

numbers are now required on both sides for all mass start races.
And for track races at HDC it's always been numbers on both sides so the officials can pick your numbers out on either straight.

So since the regs state the following:
(b) Riders shall place their numbers as prescribed by the officials and in such a way that they are visible when the rider is in a racing position. When shoulder numbers are provided for cyclo-cross, they are worn on the upper arm to be visible from the front. Hip numbers shall be attached securely at least at the four corners with pins and no accessory or hair may obstruct a clear view of the number (riders with misplaced, obscured or unreadable numbers will not be placed). If shoulder or frame numbers are provided, they too shall be placed as prescribed. Numbers may not be folded, trimmed, crumpled, or otherwise defaced. [Replacement of
56
the numbers at riders' expense if noted before the start, otherwise warning or relegation.]
What is a "Hip Number?" Is that the regular bib number, or something different like shoulder numbers in cyclocross?

out walking the earth
this is the road forum, so what happens on the track isn't all that relevant. And I've yet to see double numbers anywhere but a major road race so I'll believe it when I see it.
I don't have the difficulty with pins some seem to have though. I'm big on not trying to fix problems that don't exist.

1N7:
both sides for all mass start track
both sides for all Cat A road races
1 side for all other road.
I do mostly track and didn't notice it wasn't required for road.
