Street Races
I'm sure you've all had races on the streets and sidewalks. Lets post stories of our races that are held on the streets. What i mean are Stand still sprint races, rolling races, etc.
I'll start first.
It was a friday night and some buddys and i went out to look at the Import cars. I rode into the big lot where people parked there armored vehicles with body kits and performance mufflers. My 2 buddies and i met up with 3 younger brothers and that's when i saw them.
I saw 2 bikers riding in the distance. The older one looked a bit younger than me but taller than me. I'm only 4' 11" then, now 4' 11.5"
I rode up to him and said, "You wanna race?"
"Yea, let's go" he replies.
We both ride to one end of the curb and agreed to go about 50-70-yrds of sprinting. I downshift and get into gear while he does so also. We back our rear tires to the curb. Him on a 24" 15-21 Speed i think, and me on a 24" 21 Speed.
I get my buddy's younger brother to flag us with his visor.
"Ready! Set!" he drops his arm with his visor in his hand. "GO!"
I kind'a lean forward and pedal hard and get a little wheel spin. He gets about 2-3 feet jump and then i hook up. I get my feet up to speed and by the end of first gear i catch up and get like 2 ft ahead of him. I upshift and so does he. I get back up to speed (my feet) and shift again. Then i hear this clunk and i look behind and saw that he fell behind. I then let it roll and i come back.
He said something about his gears not shifting right. We then went again and now he's on his little bro's 20" 6 speed.
I get my buddy's younger brother to flag us AGAIN with his visor.
"Ready! Set!" he drops his arm with his visor in his hand. "GO!"
I now get a awesome jump and so does he. Once i got up to pedaling speed, it was like a turbocharger kicking in, i jumped ahead. This time he didn't miss a gear but he fell behind as i shifted through my gears.
"That was a good race!" I said as i turned back and looked at him.
"........" He says nothing and rides back to his peeps.
That was the first race i had with other people other than my buddy. We usually do 1st gear racing. Who ever can pedal faster and get ahead wins the HIGH RPM Pedaling contest.
That's my story. I still have the story where i lost. I'll post that if anyone wants to hear it.
Ride safely!
