Looks kinda flat... :)

valygrl 06-22-12 03:24 PM

Wish it wasn't such a long drive. Might do it anyway.

colobrio 06-22-12 03:40 PM

Actually, yeah

At an average of 4.1%, it is kinda flat, at least as climbs go. Just long as hell.

I rode it Sat w/my new Garmin 500. In the first 12 miles to Denny's Creek and "The Wall" I registered over half a dozen sections of 6,7,8%. Two 10% and one 13%. The "Wall", ~ 1 mile, was 10,12,14,15% then settles back to 9-10%. Once beyond that it's a relatively modest 3-4% with a couple more 5-6% thrown in in the corners. Oh, and we had a 15 mph headwind all the way up, gusting to 35 mph at the summit. Fun times. :notamused:

^^ I've ridden it a while ago, and I find those double-digit grades hard to believe. Sounds brutal with that wind, in any case.

I'm reporting the feedback I was getting off the computer as I was riding it. Come on down and try it again. :thumb:

Oh I know, I just think sometimes those numbers are wrong, I saw 20% on my Garmin (in headwind) last week, but there's no way it was more than 10% in real life.

When computing grade, Garmins seem to use either a longer time window for elevation than for distance, or the distance change is applied to an earlier elevation change. Slowing after going up a hill always seems to give anomalously high grades. If you hold the same speed for a minute or more, then the grade seems pretty accurate.

Baetis 06-25-12 10:37 AM

Just looking at the graph at the Denny's Creek section I see this: from mi 12.10 to 12.32 is 155' of elevation gain. I believe rise over run plots that at 13.3% grade? Anyways, would love to see you come down and participate. I'll be in the start house all day. ;) Come say hello. And we'll be looking for feedback after the race.

Baetis 07-08-12 05:24 PM

OK, are you ready? Winning time in Men's P1-2 was......................................
1:08:32

That's 16.8 mph AVERAGE for the climb. That's just not right.

We had 150 riders for the inaugural event. Thanks to all the riders from the Front Range for coming down and participating. Anyone who did the ride, we would appreciate feedback, positive or negative. And don't forget to 'like' us on Facebook
