Ya they're in effect here too. I'm going to go to my LBS before my first race to get them switched because mine are too big right now.

you can also block out. Whats your big front chainring. Also a possibility is to get a 25/14 (if u have a 53) and block the 14 out. I have trouble getting my bike ot shift well into the 15 on just a regular 25/15 cassette. I either need to give up the 25 or give up the 15! haha.

Also, do a cat 5 (or beginner class race) first, and not a junior race. You will either race 12 year olds, or the cat 1 18 year olds who just want some free shiz. Either way its not the best introduction to racing in my mind.

That would be my guess. And it's good advice, there's plenty of info archived here on the subjects that the kid is asking about.

I'd add: learn to use the search function.

There's no Cat5 up here....In Ontario our Senior Elite categories start at 4 and go to 1...

He starts as a junior...Then when he turns 19 he's seeded in a Senior Cat, either 3 or 4 I would assume (depending on performance)...

So juniors can't race Cat 4 races in Canada?

Nope...The Juniors race together until they turn 19....It's a real shock for the girls that do good as a junior and then are dumped into the Senior 1/2 field racing against former Olympians and Pros...

+1

And block those gears so you don't get dq'd - my junior teammate has yet to run senior gears though he really wants to.

Hey jsut you going to Gateway for me to stomp your ass?

I would think that would stifle development of elite riders.

I can see some reason to keep juniors out of Elite (18 and over) races. I've seen Cat 5 races here with younger juniors that really shouldn't have been racing with adults.

But for older juniors with some experience, and the fitness to race and win at the Cat 2 level, making them wait until 19 would really seem to hold back their opportunity to advance to an elite level.

Ya it's only by age group like U15, U17, U19 and when you become an adult it's like Master A, Master B, stuff like that. They have an OCup (Ontario Cup) for the 'good' riders that can win a lot. They added a youth cup for kids that race, but aren't yet good enough to race provincial or for things like the OCup. So it makes sense to give kids like me a chance to race for something but not againt people wayy better than us that have raced before and know what they're doing, but when I look at results from the youth cups, all of the better riders placing top 10 in OCup's are sweeping the youth cup podium. So it's basically unfair, and unless you can ride with the best, you probably won't have a chance winning anything. I personally like that cat 5-1 format better.

Sitting at 183 right now. Depending on plans for next year may come down to the mid 170's so you better step up...

Focus on school, everything else (like girls) will fall into place...

Master A, B....etc is for riders that are over 30 and that's only for Provincials and Nationals....For OCups it's Master 3,2,1 (ability based not age based)...Starting at age 35, if you want...Yes it's flippin confusing...
Once you turn 19 then it's Senior 4,3,2,1 until you decide you want to race Masters...

Lastly...OCup racing is not just for the best of the best...I race OCups and based on my results and ewang I suck!

Just get out there and race and stop worrying about winning...Train hard, race hard and let the chips fall where they may...Your goal should be to race with the best and if that's OCup then go there...

Ya I'm not familiar at all with stuff that goes over the age of 19, I'm only 16 right now and am focusing on my age group

As for OCup I was talking in regards to actually racing for something, obviuosly anyone can join, but even on the OCA website it says that you should join citizen races, and once you start seeing good results, than race for the OCup. No one follows that I'm sure but whatever. As for citizen races, where the **** do I find one of those. I found one on Agust 6th but I was at my cottage. That's it!

And ya I know I do worry to much, but that's just how it goes. I was looking for a race that I would be able to contend in, and give my mental side a brake to boost my confidence knowing that I'm not the only one there racing against a bunch of pros for my age. As of September 8th, this'll all change and I'll post how my results were, either here, or start a new thread (sorry) if this is dead.

@jsutkeepspining 1. You spelt 'just' wrong. And 'spinning' has 2 n's. 2. Are you actually still in school? Proboably university?

And for the record, jsutkeepspining and rkwaki.....Keep up the chirping, it's hilarious.
