In all honesty, I've had a lot more fun doing these mountain bike races than most of the road races. Part of it is because I have no team. Another part is because (for me) I just can't keep up in the road races. And I guess the last part is because I'm learning a lot mountain biking.

Ive also had much more fun on the mtb this year. The more I ride it the more I like it (thats what she said)...and considering Im moving to Co I can see additional mtb's in my corral, and possibly less road riding. However after spending more time on the mtb maybe I'll be re-enthused about the road. We'll see, but Im really enjoying riding off-road.

yep your screwed when i make u race me during the spring. going to beat you, then take your women for myself :P

You can have all the springtime success you want. Just remember (this is being serious) that one of your goals is to get on to a big team. Teams will remember your late season results better than early season results :)

Also, I have 8 vacation days left to use.

I'm planning to take 3 days to get a 9 day vacation over thanksgiving week. Then I'll still have another 5 to kill - for another 9 day vacation. Over thanksgiving, I will be out in the hill country with my family to get some riding in. The other will just be a basecamp from home with as much riding as I can stand.

You get christmas/new years eve off? You can take 2 days before christmas weekend, and 3 days after christmas for 13 days.

I'm burning the 3 days after christmas for 11 days! Having the eves and the day's off paid off good this year!

I'm sort of not really digging the MTB riding I've been doing after buying one a couple months ago. Seems overly dangerous for a roadie just looking for something different. I would enjoy dirt roads with some rocks and lots of climbing. But this whole roots and rocks everywhere, and take a left on a switchback and don't look to your right because you'll fall 100 ft (intermediate trail in GA), really sucks!

I spent Saturday like that, except on a beach. It was supposed to be bad weather, which strangely I was kind of looking forward to. Anyway, it turned out to be about a perfect day. There was a pretty serious breeze, but that's normal. Good race.

A couple people have mentioned MTB racing. I haven't done any (yet), but plan to at some point. The CX races I've been doing are similar. There are 2 things that I like about them. 1. The lunatics on my team 2. I can crash and not be too worse for the wear

Road crashes can get pretty serious in a hurry, and I have to admit that I think too much about them.

AMFJ 11-12-12 11:00 AM

I spent my Saturday like that also----and I crashed. Wasn't bad injury wise, but it was bad enough that I never caught back onto the small field. So the race ended up being a time trial type event. still good times.

Psimet2001 11-12-12 11:14 AM

You guys spent the weekend in A Luna chicks Skinsuit heckling pros with a megaphone?

AMFJ 11-12-12 11:23 AM

Yep, except for the Luna chicks Skinsuit, the megaphone, and the heckling pros part. Other than that--identical. :)

rkwaki 11-12-12 12:24 PM

New bike built. With heavy training wheels on (32h handbuilts) and a heavy loaner seatpost came in at 16.4 pounds so should be good for my fata$$

Take away the megaphone and replace the Luna chicks skin suit with my wife's underwear and heckling pros with singing show tunes to her cats and you'd be pretty close.

Pat, can you race Sat(Durham) or Sun(Statesville)?

ljrichar 11-12-12 01:27 PM

Whoa, looks like there's a PSIMET racer from IL registered in my race on Sat! Worlds colliding.

I was genuinely interested in the weight of cycling apparel, made a post in Road Cycling, and they moved it to a forum I don't have access to... great...

TMonk 11-12-12 03:59 PM

another reason why not to post in the 41.

i do occasionally contribute to benign threads like "Pictures of your bicycle near water", or "Best places to live (to cycle)"

It helps if you don't troll in that area in the past before making a legitimate thread. Haha.

Are these race legal: www.duxhelm.com?

I assume you mean mass-start legal. Unknown. I am waiting for the Giro Air Attack Shield. I don't know about that one, either.
